Urban Planning: Look at 2013 Defense

Although the 2012 recruiting class is getting most of the attention from head coach Urban Meyer, it's not too early to start taking a look at 2013 recruiting. While most of the candidates are in-state prospects and this list will certainly change, here is a peek at the 2013 recruiting class for defense.

While most, if not all, of the focus of Urban Meyer is completing the 2012 recruiting class at Ohio State, it's time to check out the 2013 efforts to date.

This is the first look at 2013, and most of the early candidates are in-state players, which will certainly change going forward.

It's way too early to look at a total number of scholarship offers at this time, and the NCAA mandated reductions will be factored in later, as well as possible transfers. Who is in the mix currently?

Billy Price: One of the early offers by the previous staff, and a player with several top offers to date.

Tashawn Bower: Camped at Ohio State, and the New Jersey product earned an offer. Also holds several BCS offers.

Donovan Munger: Five offers to date, including West Virginia and Minnesota.

Henry Poggi: Another big-time Gilman (MD) product, with offers from everyone, including Ohio State.

Antoine Miles: Could he be the third straight Canton McKinley defensive lineman at Ohio State?

Elijah Daniel: Recently offered, but the Indiana product appears to be favoring the SEC.

Jake Butt: No offer to date, but the Pickerington North product is in the mix.

Taco Charlton: An intriguing prospect, with an impressive offer list, including Michigan, Nebraska and Notre Dame.

LINEBACKER: Need three.

Jaylon Smith: Brother of current Buckeye tailback Roderick Smith, and an amazing athlete in his own right.

Michael McCray: No offer to date, but a highly-skilled athlete. Son of a former Buckeye star, there's no way McCray doesn't get offered, or accept it.

Courtney Love: Adding offers from the Big Ten, including Nebraska and Michigan State. Is Ohio State next?

Christopher Worley: Is Glenville still in the forefront of Buckeye recruiting? Worley is an interesting prospect.

Ben Gedeon: Another top prospect in Ohio, and an impressive offer list to his credit.

Tim Kimbrough: The Indianapolis Warren Central star is one of the top prospects in the country, and has expressed high interest in Ohio State.

Darrien Howard: Had an excellent junior season at Dayton Chaminade-Julienne.

Dymonte Thomas: Currently committed to Michigan, but Urban Meyer has offered directly. Will be fun to watch play out over the coming year.

Leon McQuay: The Florida product visited for the Wisconsin game. One of the top prospects in the South.

Marcus McWilson: Had an amazing playoff run for Cardinal Mooney, and is in the picture at safety.

Jalyn Powell: Maybe the hardest hitting defensive back in Ohio.

Jayme Thompson: Underrated athlete out of Toledo Central Catholic.

Cameron Burrows: One of the first juniors offered, and a player Urban Meyer will recruit relentlessly.

Eli Woodard: The New Jersey junior has been to Ohio State's camp the past two seasons, earning his offer.

Ross Douglas: One of Ohio's top athletes, and he holds four BCS offers to date.

Shaquille Wiggins: The Georgia product impressed at Ohio State's camp last summer and earned an offer.

Caleb Day: A speedy athlete that tore up the Ohio State junior camp last summer, earning his offer. Could also play wide receiver.

There will certainly be new names added to this list in the future, but this is a starting point for looking at Ohio State's 2013 recruiting class.
