Signing Day Impact: Patrick Elflein

Pickerington North guard Patrick Elflein has faxed his letter of intent to Ohio State, and the three-star prospect is ready to begin his Buckeye career. Elflein committed to Ohio State shortly after receiving his offer, and will be enrolling in June.

Patrick Elflein might be the least-known member of the 2012 Ohio State recruiting class, and that probably suits the 6-foot-3, 270-pound, guard just fine.

Elflein, who could also play defense, will find several players ahead of him on the depth chart when he reports to Ohio State, and could be a redshirt candidate.

Elflein has quick feet for a lineman, and is also a bulldog on the line. He will need to add bulk and strength to be able to compete at Ohio State, but he has the frame that can hold more weight.

He could also factor in at defensive tackle, but with numbers low on the offensive line, Elflein will be starting out at guard.

6-foot-3, 285 pound senior Patrick Elflein holds offers from Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, Cincinnati, South Florida, Bowling Green, Toledo and Akron, but he picked up the one he's been hoping for Wednesday afternoon.

"Ohio State has offered me," said the offensive lineman. "That's the school I've been holding out for. It's special to me, so I want to get it over with and commit on Thursday so I can focus on my senior season."

Elflein will visit Columbus Thursday afternoon and plans committing while he's there.

"I grew up in central Ohio as a Buckeye fan. And some of my friends are already committed to play there (Luke Roberts, Jacoby Boren). It's a great school with a great tradition. There's not a better feeling in the world than being a Buckeye."
