Recruiting Update - Jason Giannini

Will the Buckeyes offer a kicker this year? If they look to do it in the state of Ohio, it could be Jason Giannini from Canton GlenOak. The Buckeyes are interested, and he's interested in them as well. Duane Long has more.

Canton GlenOak's Jason Giannini might be Ohio's top kicker this year. The 5-8, 165 pounder has range from 50 yards or more and has been getting a lot of attention from Ohio State as the Buckeyes and Eastern Michigan have called him.

"I'm going to camp at Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Illinois," he said.

Jason has proven to have a big leg… can it be used for punting as well?

"I have been practicing punting, but I'm just not as good at it as placekicking," he said.

Jason is an outstanding athlete for a kicker. He is a fine wrestler and was a good defensive back.

"I wrestled at 145 this year but I broke my ribs so I could not go to the sectionals or district," he said. (He made districts last year.)

"I was always a field player," he said. "The kicking just came out of nowhere. I was a player before I was a kicker. I miss playing safety, but we can't take a chance on me getting hurt."

Jason is looking to make a choice soon.

"I would like to get it over with so I can concentrate on my senior year," he said.

The Buckeyes could help him put a quick end to recruiting.

"If Ohio State would offer, I would commit," he said.

Jason talked about current Buckeye and GlenOak product Dustin Fox.

"Dustin Fox has been back (to Canton recently)," he said. "We work out. It would be great to play with him again. I played with him as a freshman. I dressed as a freshman."

Wherever Jason goes, he knows what he'd like to do once he gets there.

"I want to major in engineering," he said. "There's a two-year course here at GlenOak and I would like to continue that in college."
