RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:03:26 PM)
Kirk - what do you think about Slick Rick?
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:04:16 PM)
Know it won't happen, but wouldn't it be cool to see John Cooper go to Washington?
SterlingBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:04:18 PM)
I think the Neuheisel situation should make us appreciate Tress that much more.
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:04:34 PM)
Tressel looks like an angel next to RN
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:04:39 PM)
Neuheisel? Well, whether or not he should have been canned for this is certainly debatable... but I think UW will be better off.
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:04:39 PM)
how is Mo C's shoulder?
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:04:44 PM)
I didn't think Slick Rick deserved to be fired for this, but his history of problems and his "I didn't know I couldn't do that" attitude are enough for him to go. I think Washington got tired of being in the news for the wrong reasons.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:04:45 PM)
In the long run anyway.
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:04:46 PM)
maybe even God! ;-)
SterlingBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:05:06 PM)
A coach with true integrity is a rare find these days and I think we've got the best possible guy for the job in the country.
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:05:40 PM)
Skilly - I saw a quote recently saying that MC's strength is finally improving
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:05:43 PM)
Haven't heard anything lately to make me think Mo C's shoulder won't be ok. But while on the topic, we might not hear much from Mo C for a while; I think he's off limits to the media until at least the season
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:06:06 PM)
the quote was from Tressel
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:06:12 PM)
good idea methinks
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:06:16 PM)
so I took that as a good "sign"
ybuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:06:23 PM)
Coach Tressel has the same quality character and integrity now that he had at YSU. His hat size will never change.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:07:07 PM)
I will throw a name out there to remember recruiting-wise...
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:07:08 PM)
A neighbor of mine was a freshman when JT was a senior at BW, and said he was the same even back then
SterlingBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:07:50 PM)
Do you think after last year's relative debacle with Mo C that he will come into the season as ready to kick tail this year? Or is he always just going to be kind of a head case?
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:08:12 PM)
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:08:26 PM)
SterlingBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:08:33 PM)
The name Kirk the name!
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:08:40 PM)
we gonna get that name Kirk?? lol
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:08:50 PM)
Oh the name... Jason Giannini, Kicker from Canton GlenOak
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:08:54 PM)
is morelli a ucla lean, or is it early?
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:09:20 PM)
He talked pretty highly of Notre Dame in his last update
SterlingBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:09:28 PM)
anthony is a notre dame lean if they offer
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:09:32 PM)
Sterling - I just think MC was thrust into too much. Imagine starting the season as a relative unknown, and ending it as a national champion
bucknut13 (Jun 12, 2003 1:09:33 PM)
Have you heard anything re:Alex Barrow and his recruitment lately?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:09:55 PM)
SterlingBuck, I think he learned a lot. MoC is an interesting character and I guess he'll remain as such, but maybe the media stuff won't be like it was last year
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:10:07 PM)
no matter how much MC thinks he was prepared, that is still a big change
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:10:24 PM)
I just hope his shoulder is ready by the season
SterlingBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:10:48 PM)
Good to hear. And I certainly do not think that he is a bad guy. Just an 18 year old who sometimes did not know when to stuff it.
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:10:53 PM)
i just hope we shut out nc state. as a unc grad, I am so sick of them.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:11:19 PM)
Morelli... tough to tell I guess. I do remember his dad showing a desire to go to the West Coast or somewhere warm
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:11:39 PM)
He stuffed it when it mattered, on the field!! ;-)
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:11:41 PM)
I don't think NC State will be able to pull it off.
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:12:17 PM)
Is there any other sites in the insiders network that has a video library comparable to bucknuts
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:12:25 PM)
Now, if they can find a QB in 2004, look out next year. But this year, I think they'll fall short of the Buckeyes.
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:12:26 PM)
I'm sure the Washington situation has been addressed already, if not, what does everyone think about it
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:12:37 PM)
Any word on Hiley qualifying? How about Reggie Smith?
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:12:44 PM)
2002champs, insidecarolina has some good video
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:12:55 PM)
To me, the BIG game this year (the one that worries me the most right now) is Wisconsin
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:13:06 PM)
Scott Kennedy, who covers the south and does the GA site, often puts video up.
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:14:07 PM)
Hubbard - it looks like there are a lot of differing opinions based upon the short conversation we had about it above
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:14:19 PM)
(I got here late)
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:14:19 PM)
Hiley -- So far so good there. Reggie Smith -- same thing. Reggie looks good to make it.
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:14:25 PM)
will this year's d-line rival the fickel, finkes, vrabel line, or is it better?
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:15:10 PM)
Name the 4th person on that line...anyone?
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:15:14 PM)
Sterling thought the situation makes us appreciate Tressel
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:15:17 PM)
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:15:34 PM)
I like this year's defensive line a lot. I think it could wind up being better. I think it's deeper than people around the country think too.
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:15:40 PM)
I think it will be comparable Skilly. Anderson, Smith, Scott, and Fraser make up a pretty impressive group that won a NC BTW
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:15:48 PM)
Garnett was a year or two later I think. I'm not 100% sure.
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:16:01 PM)
Kirk wasn't sure if he should have been fired, but thinks Wash will be better off in the long run
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:16:24 PM)
i want to say garnett was a soph/jun when the others were seniors, but it has been awhile...
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:16:28 PM)
with Pitcock, Green, Richardson, and Kudla in the two deep, the 2003 line is better overall IMO
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:16:34 PM)
I was hoping John Cooper gets teh job
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:16:43 PM)
That is about all that was said Hubbard
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:17:07 PM)
any linebacker updates? reynolds, hawk and d'andrea are the starters?
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:17:49 PM)
Kirk do you happen to know anything about any incoming walk-ons yet?
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:18:34 PM)
Sterling - look who's here
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:18:37 PM)
Thank you very much Rossford

Kirk I saw on the recruiting board that the bucks offered bobby reid, have you anything about him
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:19:54 PM)
I watched some video on Reid last night. He looks athletic. Couldn't really tell much about his arm from the clips I watched.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:20:16 PM)
Skilly you mean OSU LBs?
Skilly McRailnob (Jun 12, 2003 1:20:28 PM)

BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:20:36 PM)
I agree Sloopy. The video I saw on him didn't really show off his arm but his athletic ability is undeniable.
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:20:45 PM)
bobby s leaders
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:21:06 PM)
ToledoBuck, any in particular you have in mind?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:21:56 PM)
We tried calling Bobby Reid yesterday... no answer. I think it says a lot that the Texas Insiders site rates him second in the state ahead of Adrian Peterson (Rhett Bohmar is their #1)
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:22:19 PM)
thats pretty impressive
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:22:24 PM)
There was a recent update on Reid that made it sound like Oklahoma was a school they liked
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:22:38 PM)
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:22:40 PM)
Whats Bobby Reids size is he bigger than troy smith
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:22:50 PM)
Skilly nothing new yet... that would be my assumption of the starters right now though.
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:23:08 PM)
i would love to get a QB like Reid, Xavier Lee, or Early Doucet
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:23:16 PM)
6'3", 224lbs, 4.4 40
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:23:17 PM)
6-3, 224 on Reid
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:23:22 PM)
beat me to it
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:23:29 PM)
doucet looks to play wide reciever
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:23:47 PM)
sorry about that...
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:24:10 PM)
I like the Doucet video in the library...he's a playmaker!
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:24:20 PM)
2002 we may have something special already in smith
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:24:21 PM)
Must agree. He looks so smooth.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:24:58 PM)
I like Doucet a lot. I am a bit disappointed to see him want to play WR. I would have liked to have seen him at least get a shot at QB with that exciting elusiveness.
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:25:15 PM)
I agree Kirk
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:25:22 PM)
hey kirk, how many offers do you see us giving out at camp
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:25:32 PM)
Yes Kirk I understand Steve Fender from Toledo St Francis passed on partials from some Big
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:26:14 PM)
...Ten schools including Purdue. And full scholies form all of the Mac to walk on at OSU.
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:26:21 PM)
Kirk, what you you know about Rhyan Anderson? Are the Bucks showing any interest?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:26:30 PM)
nybucks, good question (I am noticing you are making a habit of posting good questions :) ) This year's crowd will be big. I think we'll see more than last year. Maybe even as many as 2001.
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:26:38 PM)
What did Patterson and Irizarry have to say on the radio hour
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:27:30 PM)
I think OSU is interested. I don't know if the level of interest on his part is as high as other schools. He's on our call list though. I saw Chris Pool write something like he is a physical specimen, but he wishes he showed more on tape
bc (Jun 12, 2003 1:27:33 PM)
Is should be interesting to see some of the OSU recruits at the North/South game.
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:27:34 PM)
I was impressed with Patterson, he sounds like a great kid
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:27:44 PM)
of the ones to instate players, guys who are heavy buckeye leans like caldogen and such so you see them commiting on the spot like guys have done in the past?
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:28:05 PM)
I agree Hubbard. You could tell in the interview how much he loved football
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:28:18 PM)
Both those guys are going to be media faves. I think that you'll see them handling a lot of interviews.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:29:24 PM)
nybucks, I think we could see that or something like that. What we have seen in the past with the camp is guys getting the offer, going home and then committing shortly after (like Lukens last year).
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:29:46 PM)
Kirk who do you expect to camp this summer and make a leap from relative obscurity? Any sleepers out there that no one has heard of yet that could be special?
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:29:56 PM)
I haven't seen anything on Bob Miller in a while. Will he be at camp?
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:30:13 PM)
Bob miller is a sleeper in my book
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:30:32 PM)
are there any high profile defensive ends out there we have a chance at
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:31:05 PM)
ToledoBuck, glad you asked. We have an update that we are going to post on Erik Haw today, and everything seems set for him to make a big leap this year. He's got several offers and once he gets out to all the camps he's talking about going to and shows that speed, I think his stock will fly. One other I brought up last week is Ted Bullock. There are a few,
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:31:15 PM)
Eugene Germany is a DE from California is listing us and scUM as his co-favorites. scUM has offered.
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:31:58 PM)
what position does Bullock play?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:32:00 PM)
I think Miller is going to camp but so many guys have said they are going that I forget. We have tape of him coming in a while.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:32:56 PM)
d'and fan, I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem to me like it's a great year for DEs nationally. In Ohio, Massey is probably the man.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:33:45 PM)
Bullock is interesting because he's about 6-4, 240, 4.8, and he's a thick kid. He sent us something the other day that said UK has offered. He played LB at Lucasaville Valley but it's sounding like he'll project at DE
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:34:20 PM)
Back to national DEs, we touched on Rhyan Anderson earlier, but I am not 100% sure how interested he is in OSU. Same with Derrick Harvey, who has become MD's top player
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:35:07 PM)
Kirk, it seems like Pennsylvania is pretty rich in some need positions this year. Do you think we can nab any of those guys from PSU and Pitt.
bucknut13 (Jun 12, 2003 1:35:26 PM)
I saw some tape of Gary Russell, he looked big and seemed to break a lot of tackles, with pretty good speed. Any word on his recruitment? Although I would prefer Ferguson.
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:35:35 PM)
it sure would be nice to land one of them but who knows......... I've heard people asking about a delbert ferguson video recently is there one on the way
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:36:23 PM)
I did get to see ferguson in person last year against east palestine in the playoffs he was impressive im going to watch harding this year probably fitch
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:36:52 PM)
Do you see Andino as a DE or LB?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:36:59 PM)
It's a fantastic year for talent in PA. REAL good. At one time, Pittsburgh safety Devon Lyons said OSU was the favorite. We tried calling him yesterday and missed him. I think OSU will make a run at Mitchum. It's early since he wants to get out and look around this summer, but I think the Buckeyes definitely have a shot.
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:37:04 PM)
Any word on Fred Davis grades and scores? Is it going to be a problem or does he realize he needs to pull them up?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:38:02 PM)
Duane likes Andino as a DE. I think he could play either/or. Duane really likes Andino and would love to see OSU get him.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:38:44 PM)
Fred's working hard at it. I think he knows what he needs to do. That tells me he should get there eventually.
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:39:22 PM)
why the speed issues w/ andino....... it seems that if he worked on it he could get faster he is built like an athlete
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:39:38 PM)
he's ran like 1 5.1 40, that's an issue to me
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:41:25 PM)
Back to sleepers to rise this summer. Joel Belding, OL from Lodi Cloverleaf is another. We have an update on him coming. Erik Haw and Jason Giannini are today, and his will probably be posted tomorrow. But he has offers from Vandy and Akron and a lot of schools are showing solid interest
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:41:58 PM)
Do you still consider Oninku a sleeper? Any word on him?
2002Champs (Jun 12, 2003 1:42:03 PM)
where is the video on insidercarolina
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:42:32 PM)
Kirk, do you feel like the commitment of Jamorio O'Neal is just one of those deals where he was just a special talent and was the first buckeye sophmore ever offered or if there is a special Ohio talent that is young like that in the future tress and staff will start offering that young
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:43:01 PM)
that might be worded wierd
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:43:28 PM)
Duane just told me he is on a quest to get an update on Oninku. He's been calling and hasn't gotten an answer. I wouldn't consider him a sleeper anymore. He's a guy who hasn't been talked about much, but he has some fantastic offers, and I think OSU could very well follow.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:43:55 PM)
I don't know if any of the other Insiders sites archive the videos on a page like we do, but there are some that have video
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:45:01 PM)
I don't think he was the first sophomore ever offered... he may be the first since Clarett though. I am almost positive Clarett was offered as a sophomore. I just think he's a special talent. We'll have video of him on the way too
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:45:16 PM)
question about pat sims: he was favoring OSU a while back and I read he lost weight could he end up a d-end instead of tackle? he had good speed as a tackle (4.8)
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:45:24 PM)
Was Dru offered as a soph?
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:45:26 PM)
Kirk, same question for Florida. It seems like a lot of high profile guys from Miami are mentioning OSU. What gives...do you think they are finally coming over from the dark side?
RossfordBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:46:07 PM)
I recall that the coaches were in awe of Dru when he attended camp as a soph
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:46:26 PM)
I don't know too much about Sims but 6-4, 270, 4.8 seems like he could be pretty versatile.
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:46:31 PM)
By the way Rossford hi and sorry it is actually SterlingBuck again somehow i got logged out and could notlog in under same name.
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:46:36 PM)
They might not really want to come here but being the national champs they list us like a lot of people do to make themselves look better.. Not kirk but thats my opinion but we will land some florida boys
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:48:19 PM)
ToledoBuck, I think there's little doubt the Fiesta Bowl caught their eye. There has always been interest in OSU down there, but Vernon Wilder (LB from Miami Carol City that I talked to) said it best when he said the victory put OSU back on the map down there and showed them that they can go up against anybody. An awful lot of those guys have Miami or someone else on top, but OSU is mentioned a lot.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:49:36 PM)
I do think they have a legit shot at Javier Estopinan though if they were to offer.
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:50:01 PM)
I wish we had more film other than just tha tone clip
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:50:22 PM)

Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:50:33 PM)
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:50:44 PM)
I do too... but that was a weird tape. That little piece was about all there was
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:50:53 PM)
I agree Hubbard, you can't see much
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:50:55 PM)
he sent it to you?
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:50:57 PM)
he was favoring nc state and osu but now it looks like the criminoles
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:51:09 PM)
Coach Mira at S. Miami sent it
JColeOSU (Jun 12, 2003 1:52:34 PM)
Just a quick update...I was on a chat a couple of weeks ago and mentioned redshirt freshman qb patrick dosh from UF was looking to transfer, and he had tOSU on his list. Well since that time he has transferred to East Carolina. So, I'm not sure how much interest tOSU had in him if any, but he did end up at ECU for whatever it's worth.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:54:07 PM)
Thanks for the update... would have been tough to get QB time at UF.
JColeOSU (Jun 12, 2003 1:55:12 PM)

BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:57:43 PM)
We couldn't be recruiting him as a TE, could we??
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:57:48 PM)
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:58:00 PM)
sounds like a DE
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 1:58:08 PM)
we're gonna need a blocking tight end soon
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:58:21 PM)
I think Frost should play TE, but that's just me...
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:58:30 PM)
that's his listed other position and he is a traditional TE doesnt really care about the catches #
ToledoBuck (Jun 12, 2003 1:58:33 PM)
Is Szep going to be any good?
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:58:46 PM)
frost looked way better than expected on film even at de
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 1:58:59 PM)
I don't think Szep will see the field anymore than Jim Otis Jr.
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 1:59:05 PM)
Hoobler or Frost would be a good compliment to Irizarry at TE
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:59:07 PM)
I didn't see where he said he would decide between OSU and PSU, is there a link?
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 1:59:26 PM)
Kirk, I keep gettin logged off so I dont know if you listed him but being from the athens county area have you heard anything about Grant Gregory quaterback from Athens High. Ohioprepscene did a story on him and it looks like he will get some good offers this summer
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 1:59:40 PM)
yeah I think so let me check might have been a rivals story
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 1:59:57 PM)
I agree with Frost although I think he can excel on either side of th eball
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 2:00:06 PM)
I don't like how Ohioprepscene does there hot news....
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:00:22 PM)
BuckNutty (Jun 12, 2003 2:00:26 PM)
Nicol on Rivals says Penn state leads but OSU is not far behind...
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:00:28 PM)
Duane got tape of Grant Gregory recently. He said that Gregory is a good player but suggested he wasn't OSU level
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:00:43 PM)
is grant gregory the kid in athens?
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 2:00:59 PM)
wait it was a comment someone got from the aq shipley chat w/ chris pool....... after the transcript there was something like this * rory nicol who is he friends with will decide between osu and psu
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:01:06 PM)
yeah aesculus where you from
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:01:40 PM)
north palm beach, fl
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:01:50 PM)
He is a solid player who could excel in the mac
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:01:56 PM)
That's interesting. Sounds like the interest is pretty heavy.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:03:14 PM)
that guy on superprep seems to think that gregory is the man...
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:03:35 PM)
not superprep...the ohio hs football site...
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 2:03:36 PM)
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:03:44 PM)
sorry about that...
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 2:03:44 PM)
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:03:58 PM)
where are we going to get our defensive ends? anyone?
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:04:17 PM)
also...what position do you guys think hoobler will end up at?
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 2:04:26 PM)
Good questions. Oninku maybe? Andino maybe. massey?
bc (Jun 12, 2003 2:04:34 PM)
What about Gonzo? O or D?
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:04:44 PM)
Kirk, if we were put in a situation this fall where are RB's got hurt do we still try to put Guilford back there? Do you think he will get reps in practice to prepare him for a situation like that if so?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:04:59 PM)
aesculus, that is a good question. Massey is probably the state's top DE, but will OSU be the choice? A while back, we were told that they were actually looking at Oninku as a WLB.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:05:23 PM)
oninku? really? wow.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:05:57 PM)
barrow has some pretty good size. anyone heard anything about his speed or whether or not our staff is showing any interest in him?
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:06:04 PM)
oniku has the type of frame that can add on alot of muscle at least what I have seen of him
JColeOSU (Jun 12, 2003 2:06:14 PM)
oninku has the kind of speed needed at WLB?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:06:32 PM)
nybucks I think that is certainly a possibility. I can't say for sure if it would happen, but it is an option as they seem open to trying him there
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:07:20 PM)
I think it was BSB that recently reported Oninku ran a 4.57 40. That's pretty good and better than expected.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:07:55 PM)
whoa. he does have some speed. does he play LB in h.s.?
JColeOSU (Jun 12, 2003 2:08:03 PM)
that would definitely be quick enough for LB and incredible for a DL in my opinion.
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 2:08:07 PM)
He plays DT
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:08:37 PM)
Do you see maupin as a Olineman in the future Kirk ,like we have heard or do you see him getting a shot on the DL and for that matter the same ? as it applies to cotton. We have heard both will be OL.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:08:46 PM)
I think he has played DE in a 3-4 set.
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 2:09:05 PM)
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 2:09:23 PM)
not to be negative but maupins video was less than impressive
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:10:08 PM)
but I here he has alot of upside, that the thing who's better judger of video us or tress?????
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:10:09 PM)
Cotton seems to be very, very determined to stay on defense. Maupin I think will play wherever. I think that he will start out at DL and then we will see what happens from there.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:10:49 PM)
i posted this on the regular recruiting board late last night (haven't been back since), but there is a DE from wisconsin named rhyan anderson who is listing us as a favorite. he's 6'6" 265lbs and supposedly runs a 4.6. unless he has MAJOR issues, i hope we are giving him a close look. the canes, sooners, badgers, and others have already offered. we haven't.
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 2:11:15 PM)
very true and I remember him having a tennessee offer so?? but ill just say i hope that wasnt his highlight film
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 2:11:43 PM)
is there a story w/ him naming OSUo
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:12:00 PM)
Maupin will need time to develop. I think he has good tools and potential. One way to ease your mind on that... remember that it was at camp when they watched him close up and saw what he can do that caused them to want to offer. So they got a real good look at him. He had some excellent offers.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:12:15 PM)
Oh, that wasn't his highlight film... it was just four consecutive plays from a game against Lakota East
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:12:51 PM)
d'and fan - yeah. it's premium. he says something like "the only schools of my favorites who haven't offered yet are ohio state and usc."
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:12:53 PM)
Where did he say OSU led?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:13:04 PM)
Oh, ok. I think I remember that
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 2:14:12 PM)
can u link that for me
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:14:20 PM)
I'm going to try to find what Pool said about him...
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:15:13 PM)
Kirk, might be a question you can't answer but an educated guess would be nice. How much time do you think Tressel and company spend a week with recruting as opposed to looking towards next season with the team they have now?
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:16:30 PM)
maupin seems to me like the kind of guy who will really start making people take notice around his RS soph year...seems like a project that could have success pretty early with some really good coaching (and effort on his part). i think he was a good get.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:16:40 PM)
Right now? I think they still spend a good deal... I remember hearing about a recruiting day where they set aside one day a week for nothing but recruiting
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 2:17:16 PM)
to me rhyan anderson as good as he seems would be top 5 in our class even w/ freeman ginn davis mitchum etc
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:18:23 PM)
rhyan anderson link: http://recruiting.theinsiders.com/2/113423.html
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:18:41 PM)
he calls us a favorite along with five other schools.
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 2:18:47 PM)
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:19:43 PM)
We all know Bolen has an offer now that is safe to say right? If so it has been written that he will go to camp and if he hears what he want from the staff that they like him at TB not FB he probly would commit. Kirk or whoever do you guys think he will hear what he wants from our staff ?
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:20:42 PM)
somebody told me that anderson's h.s. in WI is notoriously shady though - that they exaggerate stats and that many of the players are discipline problems w/very poor academics. i think it was WIBuckeye who told me that. i have no idea how valid that opinion is...
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:21:38 PM)
To my knowledge, they like him at FB. I know Brock wants to play RB... he'll have to show them at camp.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:21:51 PM)
i think he'll end up a badger.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:22:10 PM)
(not trying to be negative - just an opinion.)
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 2:22:21 PM)
I think so too Aes
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:23:05 PM)
I have to go in a few to post these recruiting updates... any last questions?
d'and fan (Jun 12, 2003 2:23:38 PM)
alright "webmaster" look fwd to reading them
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:23:55 PM)
i'm ready for delbert to "get on the good foot" as james brown would say. i want to see him blow everyone away at camp and at harding.
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 2:24:15 PM)
LI said he was huge now, that's always good
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:24:31 PM)
It should be interesting. Their other TB has MAC offers.
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 2:24:58 PM)
Who is the incumbent at WGH?
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:25:20 PM)
good someone (besides the departing kirk) give me a brief on these recruiting updates since i came in way late? anything of significance?
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:25:38 PM)
*could* (not good)
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:25:40 PM)
yeah did we talk any about freeman
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 2:25:50 PM)
Who's going to the WGH-Akron Buchtel game?
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:25:50 PM)
could (not good)
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 2:25:51 PM)
freeman never came up
HangOnSloopy (Jun 12, 2003 2:26:19 PM)
updates were on Eric Hew and a kicker from GlenOak
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:26:33 PM)
kirk did say that duane was determened to get an update on oniku in the future
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:26:36 PM)
His name is Richard Davis... we will have a bit more on him soon. Erik Haw and Jason Giannini updates will be posted this afternoon
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:27:05 PM)
you guys still in here?
Hubbard (Jun 12, 2003 2:27:11 PM)
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:27:16 PM)
I'm here for a few more min
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:27:54 PM)
i lost my connection...were any of your recruiting updates big news, kirk?
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:28:10 PM)
kirk, it has been said that mitchum will take another visit here. Thats a good sign for us right. I sure hope we get him
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:29:02 PM)
They are just updates I will post today. I think they are both interesting news.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:29:12 PM)
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:29:32 PM)
mitchum is at the very top of my list. up there with ginn, freeman, and davis.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:29:43 PM)
I think that is a good sign. I think there's a shot, or at least reason for optimism, which is more than we can usually say for PA guys.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:30:16 PM)
aesculus I actually think that would be a lot of people's top four... mine would be similar if not equal.
bucknut10 (Jun 12, 2003 2:30:18 PM)
If the recruiting class comes together like it possibly could (Freeman, Davis, Ginn, etc.)
bucknut10 (Jun 12, 2003 2:30:29 PM)
How good will it be to the rest of the country?
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:30:32 PM)
why can they come to ohio and get solid kids but we cant usually get much from Pa
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:32:35 PM)
i think the staff is trying to change that. i think we need to spend much more time in that state paying attention to their top kids. it's kind of like, "winning more championships (big ten and national) would also help, obviously.
aesculus (Jun 12, 2003 2:33:21 PM)
edit: it's kind of like, "yeah, remember so and so from erie prep? he went to osu and now he's in the nfl. they won the big ten three times while he was there."
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:34:22 PM)
Hey Kirk care to share with us what info Duane recieved that lead him to beleive Freeman was now 50 50 with meatchicken
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:34:25 PM)
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:35:54 PM)
nybucks, better not although I will stand by what Duane said
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:36:11 PM)
yeah i was just messin sorry!
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:36:44 PM)
I think that OSU's class nationally will be rated quite high. The u sual suspects will be up there (Miami, Texas (who already has 15 commitments I think although only a couple are top ten in the state), LSU, Michigan, etc)
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:36:55 PM)
But OSU is shaping up to do quite well.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:37:51 PM)
Well any last questions?
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:38:01 PM)
hey man i havent been able to get that email to ya asking my questions but i will soon thanks for all answers to my questions i know i do ask alot on here.
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:38:13 PM)
Ok no problem!
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:38:28 PM)
do you still think we have a shot at lyons or estes last ?
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:40:00 PM)
Lyons yep, Estes probably not...
nybucks (Jun 12, 2003 2:40:11 PM)
alrighty then thaks kirk
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:40:14 PM)
Although the Estes camp isn't saying much.a
Kirk (Jun 12, 2003 2:40:30 PM)
OK thanks everyone for stopping by. We will chat again soon!
