Recruiting Update - Joel Belding

Another player who could see his stock rise during the summer months is Lodi (OH) Cloverleaf OL Joel Belding. Joel already has a couple of offers and will be out on the camp circuit looking for more.

Joel Belding of Lodi Cloverleaf is one of several fine linemen in Ohio this year. You might not have heard much about him yet, but you will. He is 6-5, 280 pounds and recently ran a 5.18 40. How has recruiting been going for him?

"Pretty good," he said. "A lot of schools are showing interest. I have offers from Akron and Vandy."

Other schools recruiting him include OSU, Michigan, Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa, and Northwestern, with Northwestern coming on real hard.

"I'm going to camp at Northwestern and Ohio State," Joel said. "I might go to Illinois. I may go just to take a look before I commit to going to camp."

Joel did well in track this year but was the victim of some tough competition in regionals.

"I threw the shot and discus," he said. "I missed by four inches going to the state meet. The four guys who finished ahead of me in the region took four of the top five spots in the state."

Joel is a very hard worker who is busy in the weight room.

"I am doing more endurance stuff in the weight room right now," he said. "My bench press is up to 400. I started skipping rope after the football season along with weight lifting."

Joel is looking for a winning program and seems to want to stay in the Big Ten, but at the same time, he is keeping his options open.

"I want to go to Ohio State or a Big Ten school," he said. "But other than that, I am really not thinking about an early verbal because outside of that, I am wide open."
