Recruiting Updates - Clowser, Bolen, Giannini

Three players who camped at OSU this week were OL Chase Clowser, RB Brock Bolen and K Jason Giannini. We caught up with Clowser and Giannini for their thoughts on camp, and Bolen's father gave us the latest on Brock.

Chase Clowser was one of several fine offensive linemen at OSU camp Friday, but he didn't get there when he would have liked. Car problems prevented him from showing up until 2 pm. "I got to work in passing drills though," he said.

What did OSU say about his status?

"I met Coach Bollman again," he said. "They told him they wanted to look at more film on his senior year."

Chase has had a busy summer. He's camped at BC, and they kept him afterwards (he and several other linemen) and worked them a little bit harder, and he said it went pretty well. He was also at Pittsburgh last Friday, and they called back and talked to his coach and said that they would offer.

He was also at West Virginia last Monday, and he said it went pretty well, and he'll be at Kent on Sunday and Notre Dame on Monday.

He's working hard to get faster right now.

"I'm working on my speed and quickness," he said. "I'm playing basketball a lot now. I'm losing some weight. I'm down to 318. I want to get down to 315."

Brock Bolen is a player a lot of fans are wondering about. We caught up with his father for the latest.

"He now has an official offer in writing from Ohio State," he said. "He recently got offers from Illinois, Ball State and Wake Forest."

How did OSU camp go for Brock?

"Camp went well," Mr. Bolen said. "There were about 30 other backs there. They wanted to see if he could play running back. He didn't run as well as we had hoped because he had pulled his groin at Ball State but he went out there and tried. He was hurting really bad."

Brock is also starting to get attention from OSU's last on-field opponent. "Miami (FL) wants us to come down," he said.

The big question is where Brock is thinking of going to college. Right now though, it sounds like Brock is very much undecided.

"I ask Brock every day," Mr. Bolen said. "He really doesn't know."

A player who is hoping for an OSU offer is Canton GlenOak kicker Jason Giannini, but he was disappointed in the way things went this week.

"Yes, I did go down to the kicking camp," he said.  "I was at Notre Dame last weekend and strained cartilage in my plant knee.  I was okay the first day  (at OSU camp), but the second day it really swelled up on me.  Day one was okay.  (On) day two kicking off was okay, but on field goals I couldn't plant, so my field goals were off."

"It was very disappointing," he said.  "I had been kicking so well until I got hurt."
