Player Spotlight: Brent Stockstill
"Wake Forest is a school showing interest," said Brent Stockstill. "I spoke with their recruiting coach for my area, the offensive coordinator, and he said Coach Elrod liked me a lot and wants me come throw for him at their camp this summer.
"I'm also hearing from Duke. They're coming to my high school to talk with me tomorrow. The other ACC school I'm hearing from is UNC. I definitely plan on visiting all three this summer and Florida State."
Brent's father, Rick Stockstill played quarterback at FSU for Bobby Bowden from 1977 to 1981. He is in his seventh season as head coach at Middle Tennessee. While he turns to his father for advice, Stockstill says he's the one in the driver's seat with his recruiting.
"We talked about this early on and decided to let me do this on my own," said Stockstill. "Right now, I'm just looking to see what's out there for me. We're making a schedule for camps I'll go to this summer after baseball season and that will be the next step for me in the process."
Stockstill pitches and plays centerfield for the Siegel Stars' baseball team. When they finish their season Stockstill will join the football team for the rest of spring ball and start humming balls to the wide receivers. He hopes to pick right up on the momentum he started during his junior season.
"We had a good year," Stockstill said on the Stars' 2011 season. "We made it to the second round of the playoffs which was the farthest a team has ever gone in the school's history.
"There was a senior I platooned with at quarterback. I threw for 1,200 yards and rushed for 600 (yards) and had 12 touchdowns. I added some weight, improved on my arm strength and footwork, and polished up my game."
The Stars run a spread attack. In their second round playoff game against Mount Juliet they finished just a yard short from victory. The team, lead by Stockstill drove 80 yards in 1:44 but were stopped at the one-yard line with no timeouts remaining. Stockstill demonstrated his duel-threat prowess by going 11-of-15 for 179 through the air and 15 carries for 100 yards on the ground.
Stockstill reports 3.6 GPA and a score of 22 on the ACT. As a senior, he is expected to become the full-time starter at quarterback of a talented team also featuring wide receiver Tae Martin and running back Denzel Harding. Stockstill wears No. 7 for the Siegel Stars.
