Bank Blog: FNL Week

Ohio State currently has 15 commits to a class that could number as high as 21. With excitement building for this week's Friday Night Lights camp, what prospects are in line to receive offers with great performances? Who else is in the picture to be in the 2013 recruiting class?

Ohio State will hold their first Friday Night Lights camp this week, and the excitement is starting to build for the event.

With 15 commits in the 2013 recruiting class, and a class that could number as many as 21, where do things in the Buckeye recruiting world?

Tim Gardner: Offensive lineman. Indianapolis Lawrence Central. Performed for the Ohio State coaching staff in camp June 23rd, and tried to commit immediately afterward. Gardner was told to come back this week for FNL and try to earn his offer, which he is doing. Knowing how much Urban Meyer values competitors, this is a good move by Gardner, and similar to the path taken by Darron Lee. Ohio State still needs to add offensive linemen.

Devon Allen: Wide receiver. Phoenix Brophy. Allen's offer is more a camp invitation, and FNL is his chance to turn that invitation into a rock-solid offer. There is a definite need at wide receiver, and Allen gets a great shot to put himself squarely into the mix. I do not believe Ohio State would accept his commitment currently, and he needs a big showing Friday evening.

Christopher Worley: Safety/linebacker. Cleveland Glenville. Do not think there will be a FNL appearance by Worley, and I'm not sure he needs one. I believe he holds a sure-fire offer, and I think he will be signing with Ohio State on National Signing Day.

Mike Mitchell: Linebacker. Plano Prestonwood Christian. I think Mitchell is in the Ohio State 2013 recruiting class. No inside info. No Take it to the Bank. But, I think Mitchell goes into the column this weekend.

Donovan Munger: Defensive tackle. Shaker Heights. Still waiting on a visit to Ohio State with his mother, but things look promising with Munger. I can see him in this class on Signing Day.

Dennis Finley: Offensive tackle. Detroit Cass Tech. No new information to pass on, and this still seems like a two-team race between Michigan State and the Buckeyes.

Derrick Green: Tailback. Richmond (VA) Hermitage. I believe this is a casualty of the 82-man limit, although I could be 100% incorrect. The loss of the three scholarships means you cut out frills, in place of needs. I don't see tailback as a great need at this time, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Green in the class. But maybe surprised.

James Quick: Wide receiver. Louisville Trinity. Made some interesting Twitter comments this week that could be referencing Louisville's Charlie Strong. Could the Louisville lock be not locked? Stay tuned, but bare in mind information is hard to come by with Quick.

Vonn Bell: Safety. Rossville (GA) Ridgeland. Still have the five-star in the "maybe" category, but not in the "probable" category at all. This one appears to be trending away from Ohio State, but Meyer will pursue this one until the end.

Dorian Johnson: Offensive lineman. Belle Vernon (PA). Remains committed to Penn State, but has told fellow commits he might be looking around. Mentioned Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Ohio State as schools he might consider. Stay tuned.

Shelton Gibson: Wide receiver. Cleveland Heights. This one is a tough one to call, and the word is that there are academic concerns that need addressed. Could he be headed to Fork Union after graduation, and go back through the recruiting process for 2014?

Tyquan Lewis: Defensive end/linebacker. Tarboro (NC). Have always seen Lewis in this class, but no clue when his decision will be forthcoming. No new information to put out on him.

As always, remember this is Urban Meyer at the helm, so there is always the possibility of a shocker at any time.
