Chat Transcript - 7/11

We have a chat transcript posted now from today's chat with Jamie Newberg, and Big XII North and Iowa recruiting analyst Josh Clark also stopped in.

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 1:21:00 PM)
Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us. Feel free to fire away with questions fans and we'll post them one at a time.

spraguezilla (Jul 11, 2003 1:21:04 PM)
thanks for stopping by Jamie

BBuck (Jul 11, 2003 1:21:11 PM)
Yes, welcome and I've read that Mitchum is the strongest OOS OL lean for OSU - is that true and what about OSU's chances with Byers and Gallimore? Thanks Jamie!

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:22:00 PM)
Honestly, I have not spoken with Kyle. I missed him time and time again so it is hard for me to answer that.

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 1:22:34 PM)
Jamie what do you think about where OSU stands with Byers and Gallimore?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:22:38 PM)
I spoke with Byers father last night and he said Jeff will narrow things to 5,6, 7 schools real soon but he didn't say who.

Buckwildin' (Jul 11, 2003 1:23:35 PM)
What's the latest rumblings with Brandon Nicolas about? Thanks!

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:23:45 PM)
I need to get in touch with Brett and Kyle and see what they are thinking.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:24:42 PM)
Buck - I have not heard any rumblins in regards to Nicholas.

oogatz (Jul 11, 2003 1:24:53 PM)
Hi Jamie. I wanted to ask if you have heard whether any of the top DE's in the nation have been ramping up their interest in OSU as this seems to be a big need at present? Who are they if there is such interest? Thanks.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:26:39 PM)
At this point, I don't think it is a great year for DEs... at this point Anderson is probably the highest rated DE that likes the Bucks. It will be interesting to see if they vernture away from the midwest for those DEs.

jd (Jul 11, 2003 1:26:49 PM)
Jamie, is OSU drawing a lot of interest from the blue-chip players from GA and FL this year ? What players does OSU have the best shot at from down there ?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:29:06 PM)
I think they will do well in FLA... they should be able to land a player or two. I am still trying to check on Morton. He told Scott he was committed to Ohio State. WIllie Williams, Charlies Jones, Drew Miller, Javier Estopinan, DIxon, Dukes, etc. are all Florida kids showing strong interest. Of course, they got Bauserman from Tallahassee. Like I said, I think they will get another one or two but it is really too early to tell.

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 1:29:20 PM)
Jamie what do you think of Bauserman, he seemed to be a name no one had heard much about

BBuck (Jul 11, 2003 1:29:22 PM)
I think everyone here is interested in your thoughts on Bauserman and the OSU grayshirt situation. Thanks again Jamie.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:31:08 PM)
I think it is a good situation for boht OSU and Bauserman. Lets say he signs this FEB and gets drafted in June... my theory is that he really wants to play rookie ball in the summer/ early fall. THis will not scare away any of the QBs... he enrolls in JAN 2005 and Ohio STate frees up a ship because he or the baseball team will have to take care of that. That is my theory. We'll see what happens.

Buckwildin' (Jul 11, 2003 1:31:20 PM)
Up till a few weeks ago, I was very confident that we'd get Freeman. Then Duane came out with his stock report and gave reason for doubt. Do you have any new info on him one way or another? Thanks!

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 1:31:24 PM)
Where do you think Marcus Freeman will end up?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:32:01 PM)
Bauserman has kind of gotten overlooked because it happens to be a deep and great year for QBs in FLA. That is usually not the case. He is around 6-2, 225 or so. Great arm and plays with a ton of talent. He is a three star guy.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:33:09 PM)
Not sure where Freeman will end up but I was not overly impressed by the film I saw and I watched two games. He had a great Nike Camp and those guys were very impressed. I think he is rated about right. We'll see what he does this season. I am anxious to see him play this season.

brett (Jul 11, 2003 1:33:27 PM)
What top national guys do you fell OSU has the best shot at

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 1:34:26 PM)
(Just for everyone's info... we're about 10 questions deep right now, so I'm guessing it would take just a few min for any questions submitted now to get posted)

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:35:33 PM)
Ginn, Davis (I think they both end up at OSU)... they are also on a ton of other guys like WIllie Williams, Charlie Jones, Early Doucet, Braxton and a ton of others... I really believe with another strong season, they could do exceptionally well in recruiting. I think they are off to a great start with guys like Person and Williams, etc.

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 1:35:46 PM)
What are the chances that we land Rhyan Anderson now that we have offered and what kind of player is he?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:37:11 PM)
He is a very good player and he is the type of prospect that could really rise this season. He has a bunch of good offers. With this type of player, you always have to watch out for the home team (WISC).

Oswald (Jul 11, 2003 1:37:20 PM)
Jamie, any new info on Reid (QB)? Whose the team to beat, in your estimation?

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 1:37:24 PM)
Robert Reid QB from Texas has expressed interest in us and we have offered. What are the chances he becomes a buck?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:38:58 PM)
Honestly, watch out for OK State with Reid. Just something we are hearing.

jlunds (Jul 11, 2003 1:39:07 PM)
What sport will Grixby decide on and where might he end up. Ohio State possibly?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:40:10 PM)
Grixby is 5-8.5, 5-9... I would be shocked if he picked basketball.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:40:12 PM)
I think Grixby goes to NEB. Sorry.

Murat (Jul 11, 2003 1:40:20 PM)
Hi Jamie, where do you think Brohm is going to go and why do you think the Bucks have not pursued him at all ?? thanks

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:41:36 PM)
Not sure why OSU is not recruiting him but I think Louisville will have the best shot, especially with his brother being a coach there. Keep on eye on Michael Bush this season. IF he has a great freshman season, that could influence him somewhere else. But I think he will be a Cardinal.

spraguezilla (Jul 11, 2003 1:41:46 PM)
Jamie, I know we've heard that Andrew Johnson was thinking about Ohio State. Do the 'Bucks still have a chance with him or has Pitt already locked him up. Thanks

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 1:41:49 PM)
What schools do you think Johnson and Morelli will annouce for in their press conference?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:42:38 PM)
I keep hearing Pitt with Johnson but remember, it is only July 11th and its very early. Things always change in the recruiting game.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:42:54 PM)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 1:43:06 PM)
I am a little late, and I was wondering if there would be a transcript of the chat posted for subscribers

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 1:43:06 PM)
We will have a transcript posted later today

oogatz (Jul 11, 2003 1:43:16 PM)
Thanks. I wonder if you have heard of any blockbuster surprise commitments or announcements on the horizon with respect to top recruits nationwide. Not just pertaining to OSU but elsewhere as well.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:44:12 PM)
I have not heard of any major decision soon other than maybe Dan Connor. I know he would like to decide soon, if possible. I got the feeling the ND could be the team to beat with him.

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 1:44:28 PM)
That would make me happy because it would mean no Connor for UM :)

jd (Jul 11, 2003 1:44:46 PM)
Do you see Bauserman as a Krenzel-type of talent or does he have more passing ability than Krenzel has shown to date ?

scribeohio (Jul 11, 2003 1:44:48 PM)
Jamie, what is Joe B. like?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:45:04 PM)
We'll see. Its just a hunch of my part. Could be ND, could be MICH, could be Penn state.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:47:43 PM)
Look, Krenzel played with moxy and lead his team to a NC... Bauserman, Henne, Morelli, etc have not done anything yet. I don't mean to sound harsh but its hard to make a comparison like that. Having said that, Bauserman has a cannon and throws the ball well. Personally, I think Ohio State is a good offense for him. They run the ball and have talent at the skills positions. Just like his high school team. I don't think he is the type of franchise QB that can carry a team. He needs a cast but he can certainly run the team and execute an offense.

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 1:48:10 PM)
Jamie-- Gut feeling does Hoyer or Ferguson get an offer from OSU?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:49:31 PM)
I tell you what, I honestly feel Hoyer is the most underrated QB in America. I LOVE HIM. I am somewhat surprised OSU has not offered. I reallllllllllly like that kid. Ferguson?

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 1:49:39 PM)
He means Delbert I'm pretty sure

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 1:49:50 PM)
yes Delbert

HangOnSloopy (Jul 11, 2003 1:50:23 PM)
What are your thoughts on Rodrick Johnson from Texas?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:51:09 PM)
My bad. I was trying to think of what QB Ferguson? I am somewhat surprised by his lack of offers. I have seen tape and I think he is a GOOD back... a big 10 type back too. A big senior year and the offers should start coming in for him. Will OSU? I don't know. He needs to hang onto the rock this season.

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:51:16 PM)
I have not seen Rodrick Johnson.

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 1:51:33 PM)
I know its real early, but with the prospects we are currently in on where do you see this class ranking nationally when its all said and done? Top 5?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:53:11 PM)
topsyturvy - absolutely impossible to predict something like that in July. With another big season, there is no telling how high they could get. I expect them to recruit very well regardless. Where will that put them in the end? It is WAY too early to tell.

Hubbard (Jul 11, 2003 1:53:42 PM)
My connection was lost, has anything about Gallimore been discussed? If not josh Clark said we have a good shot of landing him, your thoughts?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:54:17 PM)
Hard for me to say on Gallimore b/c when I spoke with him (about 6 weeks ago) he was completely wide open.

Oswald (Jul 11, 2003 1:54:26 PM)
A quick non-buckeye question. How are up and comers USF and UCF doing down here in the sunshine state. Are they starting to compete with the big boys?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:55:26 PM)
Yes they are. So FLA joins USA this season. Last year, they beat four USA teams and two years ago they beat Pitt. We all know that UCF plays everyone, many SEC teams and does well. There is enough talent in FLA for all five teams to get players.

Guest (Jul 11, 2003 1:55:39 PM)
How would you compare the recruiting of OSU under Coach Tressel vs. Coach Cooper? Do you think OSU is keeping pace recruiting the national scene?

edbuck51 (Jul 11, 2003 1:56:02 PM)
JN, How would you compare OSU's recruiting under Coach Tressel vs. Coach Cooper? Do you think OSU is keeping pace recruiting on a national level?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:57:43 PM)
I thought Cooper recruited well from what I could remember... look at ALL the HIGH draft picks... having said that, what Tressell has done on and off the field is amazing. I look at Ohio State, with the base being the state of Ohio, and I always think they should be a top 10, top 15 team at worst. Tressell just won the NC and I think Ohio State is back for real and for the long term as a national POWER.

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 1:58:00 PM)
LB James Bryant has said he will announce at the All-American game in Texas. Any chance he announces for OSU?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 1:58:59 PM)
Sorry, can't predict that. That's another one Pitt looks good with. We'll see. That is still 6 months away.

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 1:59:07 PM)
Jamie why do you think we were never in on a kid like Connor who seems to like the Big Ten and want to stay in the Midwest? Was it more from the coaches not persuing him or him not ever interested, and if it is either the coaches not interested or him not being interested why do you think that it was that way?

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 1:59:19 PM)
Hello Buckeye Fans

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 1:59:41 PM)
Jamie I want to get this one in if possible...

jd (Jul 11, 2003 1:59:56 PM)
Based upon what you have seen on film, do you consider this to be an excellent year for talent in OH ?

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 2:00:01 PM)
Orlando - Honestly, I have no idea. To me, he is a Mike Alstott clone on offense and Katenmoyer on defense.

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:00:22 PM)
Hello Josh

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:00:43 PM)
After Jamie leaves I will turn the moderation off and we can chat for a few more min

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 2:01:06 PM)
More times than not, it is always a good year in Ohio. When it comes to recruiting, it doesn't get the acclaim it really should. I think its a good year, solid QBs, RBs, national WR like Davis, some great OLs, Ginn, etc. I think it is a GOOD year.

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:01:07 PM)
How is Orlando treating you this fine afternoon? Warm and cripsy here in Iowa

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 2:01:38 PM)
Warm and crispy here is HOT-Lanta too.

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:01:39 PM)
I saw some film on RB Raymond Williams - Duane I know is very high on Ferguson - but Williams is a special player as well - too bad his grades were not improved, or otherwise he may be recruited as heavily as anybody

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 2:01:52 PM)
Guys - It has been a pleasure. I would love to do this again REAL soon.

HangOnSloopy (Jul 11, 2003 2:01:59 PM)
Thanks Jamie

BuckeyeGlory (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:04 PM)
thanks jamie

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:06 PM)
Jamie thanks for stopping by. Everyone I will stick around a bit; sorry we couldn't get all the questions in. Thanks Jamie!

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:07 PM)
Thanks Jamie

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:16 PM)
Hey Josh -- everyone wants to know about Gallimore...

Jamie Newberg (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:20 PM)
Everyone have a great weekend and remember, less than 50 days away from football! Thanks again.

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:28 PM)
thx Jamie!

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:32 PM)
I do not like the heat I am moving back to Columbus this coming Wednesday! I can't wait! Now if I can just land a job with my new degree things would be even better

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:41 PM)
thanks Jamie

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:47 PM)
Hi josh

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:02:54 PM)
Hello Buckaroo

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:03:03 PM)
Any questions I can answer; please feel free to ask

HangOnSloopy (Jul 11, 2003 2:03:13 PM)
70 and sunny w/ no humidity today in Northern California. :)

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:03:18 PM)
I like Ray Williams as well. I think he's definitely one of the state's top three backs. But then again, I haven't seen Haw. Can't wait to see him.

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:03:22 PM)
Yeah, how do I get a job doing what you are doing Josh?

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:03:27 PM)
Great interview on Byers Kirk - you guys do a great job of identifying unkown intangibles of a prospect

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:03:35 PM)
I love this stuff I would kill to make a career out of it

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:04:04 PM)
Orlando - you probably don't want my job :-) I love what I'm doing, though!!!

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:04:21 PM)
As long as it pays the bills I would

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:04:32 PM)
Thanks Josh... everyone what he's referring to is an interview I posted on the front page during chat. Charles Babb got to talk with Jeff Byers recently and did the article

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:04:33 PM)
I spend hours a day looking over this stuff

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:04:35 PM)
well, remember your the one that has to report the bad news at times :)

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:04:47 PM)
Josh: what do U think our chances are with Gallimore?

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:04:56 PM)
Byers emphasizes all phases of being an "student-athlete"

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:02 PM)
You also have to deal with angry people who don't want you calling their house :)

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:03 PM)
I think Ohio State is the early favorite for Gallimore

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:12 PM)
Call me crazy but I really think we land Gallimore Byers and Mitchum

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:17 PM)
Mitchum as a DT of course

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:27 PM)
Byers is the least likely

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:32 PM)
I'd say landing Gallimore and Mitchum is more likely - OSU does have a strong with Byers as well though

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:32 PM)
Byers would be great..the guy is a top 10 player on EVERY list

scribeohio (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:35 PM)
Josh, we really appreciate the news you gave us on Byers, Gallimore, and Mitchum recently no matter where they go. Thanks

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:37 PM)
but I still feel good about it

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:46 PM)
how much will troy smith contribute?

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:49 PM)
I think it's early on all three of them but I will say that I liked hearing that PSU was out of it for Mitchum. Don't count out Iowa on Mitchum too.

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:51 PM)
Hey, anything I can do for you guys; it is my pleasure

edbuck51 (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:54 PM)
Is anyone as hyped up on Leon Hart as I am? I hope we get a good look from this guy.

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:05:59 PM)
Iowa does very well in Erie

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:20 PM)
Mitchum and Gallimore are very similar - better guard prospects than tackles but each could play right tackle if needed

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:22 PM)
He would be a good get but not sure we have room for him

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:25 PM)
I like Mitchum more on the offensive line

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:25 PM)
Josh:what are your thoughts on Patterson?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:38 PM)
David Patterson

BuckeyeGlory (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:43 PM)
Josh what do you think about our chances with ryhan anderson

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:46 PM)
NEbuck, this year? Not much during game day, but in the future, he could be the man at qB

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:48 PM)
Nick Patterson

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:06:55 PM)
Patterson currently favors Missouri - Coach Pinkel has done a good job and there is loyalty - I don't believe this would be a huge loss for Buckeye fans, though, - I'm REAL high on Brandon Underwood

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:07 PM)
cool thx

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:08 PM)
ME TOO!!!!

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:11 PM)
Ryhan Anderson has to get an OSU offer first - and I don't see that forthcoming

BuckeyeGlory (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:22 PM)
they did offer him

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:23 PM)
HE said he has one from OSU

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:33 PM)
Oak Creek is not always a recruiter's first stop on his wish list if you know what I'm saying

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:39 PM)
I think it was the OU site that reported an Anderson offer

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:45 PM)
In his most recent interview with a sooner site

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:07:56 PM)
I had not heard of an OSU offer - Kirk, you may want to check into that

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:08:10 PM)
Why are we not in on Derrick Harvey

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:08:10 PM)
Anderson is a dynamic prospect - but I like Jason Chapman just as much

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:08:19 PM)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:08:49 PM)
Derrick Harvey played basketball up until last year -- Can anyone say Julius Peppers

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:08:52 PM)
Derrick Harvey mentioned OSU when we talked with him a while ago, but they seemed down the list. No offer might have something to do with it

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:08:59 PM)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:09:10 PM)

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:09:18 PM)
NEbuck I think that is safe to say

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:09:21 PM)
If Morelli elects for Ohio State - I believe he will pass Zwick

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:09:27 PM)
No question he is very good and Tressel is loyal to Seniors

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:09:37 PM)

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:09:45 PM)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:09:50 PM)
Do you actually think we have a snowballs chance in hell though

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:09:54 PM)
however, right now all indications have pointed Morelli to Pitt - will be interesting to see if the Big East situation hurts them

edbuck51 (Jul 11, 2003 2:10:20 PM)
I've been on vacation for 11 days. Are the vibes ebbing or flowing with Morelli?

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:10:20 PM)
Buckeye fans also should not be too distraught if they do not land Andrew Johnson - plenty of great RB/CB prospects in Ohio this year

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:10:26 PM)
I have 5to give Harris a major A+ for the job he is doing over there

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:10:33 PM)
Johnson has academic work to make up

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:10:46 PM)
Josh: who would U say the top proscpect is in the Region that you cover?

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:10:52 PM)
Speaking of the Big East, here is an article in the Cincy Enquirer this morning that was pretty interesting:

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:10:52 PM)

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:10:53 PM)
Jeff Byers; no question

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:11:03 PM)
ahh of course...second?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:11:04 PM)
agreed I do not even like Johnson after seeing his film

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:11:28 PM)
I like Ferguson, Russell, and Pernell williams better

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:11:35 PM)
I am not high on Ray Williams at all

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:11:38 PM)
Chase and Nick Patton each make a case - Cortney Grixby is as exciting as anyone in the country - a sleeper is OL Matt Boss and RB Kenny Wilson from Kansas - neither have been heard of much

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:12:07 PM)
I am a big believer in Chad Henne

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:12:20 PM)
I have Boss rated higher than Gallimore - more of a tackle prospect - he will be deciding amongst KSU (leader) and OU though

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:12:35 PM)
Morelli performed better at Nike Camp than Henne, though

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:12:36 PM)
Josh what do you make of Iowa hitting the state of Ohio so hard? My theory is they got their complimentary copy of Ohio's Future Stars :D

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:12:37 PM)
great, OSU have a shot at any of those U just mentioned Josh?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:12:45 PM)
When he makes that 50 yard run in his video you cannot tell me he doesn't look like a more mobile Johnny U

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:12:58 PM)
Kirk; your probably correct :) - Iowa really likes Anton Nariniskiy

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:13:08 PM)
Anton has now been offered by BC and a few others - academics could win him

jd (Jul 11, 2003 2:13:35 PM)
Kirk, any news recently on Bob Miller ?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:13:37 PM)
who is Narinsky have not heard of him

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:13:38 PM)
They're actually doing really well in establishing a presence. I can't tell you how many players we've talked to who have mentioned Iowa

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:13:38 PM)
Ohio State is only actively recruiting Gallimore - they'd have a great shot at Grixby if they decided to offer

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:13:59 PM)
Isn't Grixby a corner

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:03 PM)
From talking to Duane, I'm hearing Chase Clowder's name more and more often know from people in the business

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:06 PM)
We are pretty full there

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:06 PM)
Grixby is a corner

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:12 PM)
wow really? Has Grixby mentioned he is interestred in OSU?

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:18 PM)
size (5'9, maybe 5'8, 160) has some concerned

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:28 PM)
Grixby is interested in OSU - as you can read on Bucknut's front page

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:31 PM)
another great story Kirk :)

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:33 PM)
Anton goes to Kenston in Chagrin Falls. Rising player

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:43 PM)

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:14:49 PM)
Anton could be a potential TE - 6'4 215 with great agility and speed

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:02 PM)
great..I missed that

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:11 PM)
Why has Chapman remained so low on the radar if he is upposedly according to one of the OSU coaches the best DE in the Midwest

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:21 PM)
Coaches say a lot of things to prospects Orlando :-)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:30 PM)

jd (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:32 PM)
Any news on Bob Miller from Willoughby South ?

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:35 PM)
you would not believe how often I hear a prospect state a school has told him he is their #1 recruit

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:36 PM)
Do you see us offering Chapman?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:38 PM)
but you also think highly of him

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:49 PM)
man Grixby has some nice offers

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:15:50 PM)
I leave that out of stories almost always unless I've heard it from the coach as well

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:16:02 PM)
Chapman has a good shot of being offered

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:16:23 PM)
Grixby has a brother playing at Nebraska currently - will be hard for him to leave the Husker state

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:16:30 PM)
Chapman just may be a guy it took a while to catch up with. We tried to contact his coach several times back in April and May and had no luck. Then we finally found his number recently and gave him a call. We heard the buzz on him but were still surprised at the nice list of offers he mentioned

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:16:31 PM)
Who do you think are the best DE prospects out there that OSU has a shot at

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:16:47 PM)
jd, haven't heard much on Miller recently

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:17:04 PM)
Ohio State has not taken a look at Nick Hayden from Wisconsin, which surprises me, because I have him rated higher than Ryhan Anderson

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:17:14 PM)

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:17:26 PM)
It'll be hard for Ginn to select anywhere besides OSU

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:17:35 PM)
Josh: who would you say is better Grixby or Ginn?

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:17:44 PM)

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:17:52 PM)
If any prospects were to leave Ohio with OSU offers - Freeman/Davis would be the most logical - but OSU is doing a fantastic job with them as well

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:17:54 PM)
DE is an area that I really want to see OSU go after a few big prospects and land a couple. Especially with Scott and Smith leaving and us batting zero last year

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:18:02 PM)
that was embarassing

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:18:03 PM)
I don't like to use the word lock but it would be a major surprise if Ginn goes anywhere else. It would be more surprising than if I went home and found Beyonce waiting for me

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:18:10 PM)
Ginn - more size and more physical - played against better competition

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:18:43 PM)

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:18:47 PM)

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:19:16 PM)
Buckaroo - now you have to tell me, what is "LMFAO"

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:19:27 PM)
laugh my @#$%^^ ass off

edbuck51 (Jul 11, 2003 2:19:31 PM)
Do you think Willingham is making big progress, or do you see things going about the same in South Bend?

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:19:34 PM)
ya heh

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:20:26 PM)
Josh: where do U think Adrian Patterson ends up..and does OSU have anyb shot at him?

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:20:34 PM)
Adrian could end up at Miami(FL)

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:20:35 PM)
err Peterson

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:20:57 PM)
ewww Criami!

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:21:57 PM)
Maybe OSU could steal Charlie Jones if APete goes there

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:22:11 PM)
Not counting on that tho

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:22:21 PM)
ya that would be great

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:22:28 PM)
How is it that they can get great guys every year even if ther are peoplke ahaed of them, but when we go after big prospects people tell us we do not have a chance because we just recently got 2 elit 11 QB's and that scares people. The go Kyle Wright last year and that does not seem to stop them from landing or attracting more great QB's. Josh what gives here?

edbuck51 (Jul 11, 2003 2:23:06 PM)
good question orlando

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:23:14 PM)

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 2:23:23 PM)
They are also more of a QB school that us though.

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:23:31 PM)
I liked your one abot Tressel VS. Cooper earlier

jd (Jul 11, 2003 2:23:37 PM)
being in Columbus is not the same as being in Miami to a kid.....

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:23:40 PM)
Josh: how about Robert Reid..what are your thoughts on him and who is he favoring?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:23:41 PM)
It is not just QB

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:23:47 PM)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:24:12 PM)
every position they have major talent but it does not scare anyone away

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:24:32 PM)

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 2:24:43 PM)
the coaches have to be doing some lying to recruits

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:24:58 PM)
I have nothing against them and they are very attractive to recruits especially with all of the people they have sent to the NFL recently

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:25:03 PM)
I guess I'd be a little surprised if Brandon didn't go to OSU, but we will see

jd (Jul 11, 2003 2:25:09 PM)
its simple guys....Miami is alot nicer place to be than Columbus (outside of football)

edbuck51 (Jul 11, 2003 2:25:09 PM)
I guess Miami has the same allure today, as ND had in the 80's, and OSU and USC had in the 70s. I hope, and believe, our cycle is coming back.

OHBuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:25:27 PM)
Lying or telling the kids what they want to hear.

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:25:33 PM)
but we are a big time program with a lot of tradition why are we unable to make these kids not care about who is in front of them

topsyturvy (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:00 PM)
I think it because JT is truthful and straight forward to the kids

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:04 PM)
Reid has as much potential as any QB in the country - terrific prospect

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:09 PM)
Are you serious have you ever been to Miami

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:16 PM)
Reid could end up at Georgia

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:20 PM)
it is not thAT GREAT

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:46 PM)
WAAAAY to Hot and all the cool stuff to do there you have to be pretty well of

jd (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:47 PM)
to a young man it is....

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:53 PM)
I am a young man

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:26:55 PM)

OHBuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:27:02 PM)
I give a lot of these kids credit. Coming in to a program that has possibly four or five deep and hoping to garner a starting position.

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:27:23 PM)
And I cannot wait to move back to Columbus next week

jd (Jul 11, 2003 2:27:53 PM)
but you live in Orlando and not Coral Gables/South Beach right ?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:28:04 PM)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:28:15 PM)
been down there and have friends from there

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:28:19 PM)

jd (Jul 11, 2003 2:28:29 PM)
these young guys see Coral Gables and South Beach on their visits...

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:28:51 PM)
Josh: thx for all the great info..another question what current Lineman either College or NFL would you compare Jeff Byers game to? The guy seems to be the most dominant lineman for some time.

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:29:14 PM)
That would be wonderful. That will be a major battle either way

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:29:17 PM)
He is Orlando Pace on the inside

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:29:28 PM)
I don't really know who to compare Byers to - but some in the business have said he is as fine of an OL prospect to come along in last 15 years

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:29:41 PM)
good comparison Orlando - he takes over a game as a center

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:29:51 PM)
thats impressive

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:30:00 PM)
Truly could be a Heismanb candidate in the future

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:30:20 PM)
and would be a starter for OSU next year no doubt in my mind

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:30:30 PM)
I thought maybe Turley..a real mean streak maybe?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:30:37 PM)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:30:42 PM)
at this level anyway

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:31:10 PM)
If he comes here I believe he would start at Guard

NEbuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:31:13 PM)

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:31:16 PM)
with Mangold in Center

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:31:34 PM)
Than his Junior year he would take over for Mangold

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:31:52 PM)
Josh: do u think Colorado is the team to beat for Byers? Him being from Colorado and all..

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:32:05 PM)
He has said that distance is not a factor

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:32:06 PM)
at all

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:32:25 PM)
I believe that they will be one of his official visits however

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:32:37 PM)
thats good...the kid doesn't seem to tip his hand at all

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:32:47 PM)
No he is very good with the media

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:33:02 PM)
and all I can think his how much of a Tressel recruit he is

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:33:14 PM)
and how much they will get along

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:33:29 PM)
Byers will LEAVE the state of Colorado

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:33:34 PM)
I really think we land him

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:33:40 PM)
I will predict now that you will not see Byers become a Buffalo

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:33:47 PM)
thats good

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:33:48 PM)
It will be between OSU, Iowa, and Michigan

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:34:05 PM)
Nebraska could be a player for Byers - and I wouldn't rule out at least one of the Pac Ten schools

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:34:06 PM)
that is my feeling

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:34:15 PM)
however, I do believe Byers will end up in the Big 12 or Big Ten Conference

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:34:32 PM)
where do u think Byers goes if U had to pick a school at this time?

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:34:45 PM)
Buckaroo - I don't know - I don't think Jeff knows right now

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:34:57 PM)
I think that the struggles will continue for Nebraska this year and the uncertainty of the coaching staff will kill NU's chances

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:35:08 PM)
well let's hope he stays in the Big 10

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:35:22 PM)
except for Michigan

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:35:25 PM)
Orlando - a lot of people sharing those feelings on Nebraska - but I know there is confidence in Lincoln things can be turned around

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:35:42 PM)
Ohio State and Iowa have the best shot out of the Big Ten, in my opinion

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:35:51 PM)
agreed things can be turned around I just do not think it will happen this year

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:36:03 PM)
Solich is definitely under some pressue

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:36:05 PM)

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:36:26 PM)
Guys, been lovely chatting with you - I'll be by more often - please let me know if I can be of any assistance

OHBuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:36:30 PM)
Didn't Solich get Downing though from Purdue to head the recruiting?

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:36:31 PM)
If they play KSU OU and Texas next year that is a guaranteed 3 losses right there

Buckaroo (Jul 11, 2003 2:36:43 PM)
thx Josh!!

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:36:47 PM)
Downing is with Nebraska - Scott does a tremendous job - especially in the MO/KAN Region

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:36:47 PM)
plus OSU would be a tough one for them as well

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:03 PM)
Nebraska is also recruiting Ohio - they have offered QB Alex Engram

OHBuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:04 PM)
But Downing used to be at Purdue.

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:10 PM)
Downing did use to be at Purdue

BuckeyeNOrlando (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:14 PM)
thanks Josh

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:22 PM)
Josh is right about Nebraska... the Pelinis are getting to work in the Buckeye State

OHBuck (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:25 PM)

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:35 PM)
Kirk, keep doing a good - let me know if I can be of any help

JoshClark (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:39 PM)
Later Guys!!!!

Kirk (Jul 11, 2003 2:37:41 PM)
Thanks Josh, talk to you soon
