Mauti Tackles FOS Player of Illinois Game

Penn State linebacker Michael Mauti honored by PSU fans as their Player of the Illinois Game.

With six tackles (four solo), two interceptions and half a sack, Michael Mauti was honored by Penn State fans as their Player of the Illinois Game in landslide fashion.

Mauti already was awarded Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week for his impressive performance against the Illini en route to a 35-7 victory.

In fact his 99-yard interception run set a Pen State record, eclipsing the 98-yard mark set in 1958 against Boston University.

Mauti received a head-turning 77% of the fan vote with only running back Zach Zwinak making a dent in the total with 20% of the ballots.

The Fight On State Player of the Game Award is the first and only honor given to Penn State players by Penn State fans. Voting is exclusively conducted on after every Penn State football game.
