Keita makes the call

Four-star class of 2014 standout Keita Bates-Diop made a surprising decision, and is headed to Ohio State.

Four-star forward Keita Bates-Diop had been hinting at a decision for several weeks and on Sunday morning he decided to come off the board. It was a surprising decision, but one that the very talented forward is happy with.

Coming from Normal (Ill.) University High School, Bates-Diop became one of the hottest targets on the recruiting circuit this past summer, and now he has chosen the Ohio State Buckeyes.

"It was a lot of little things," said Bates-Diop. "I really liked the coaching staff and the people on my visit. I was just very comfortable there."

While some of the schools involved like Illinois, Michigan, and Purdue had been in the recruitment for the longest, Ohio State was able to develop a very strong relationship starting this summer.

"They first made contact with me in July and we built a real strong connection and relationship," said Bates-Diop. "It was just the school for me."

According to Bates-Diop one of the things that stood out to him was how the Buckeyes planned to use him.

"I will be on the wing which is my position," said Bates-Diop. "I like to get up and down the court like they do and I think I can make an impact there."

For one of the most well spoken and thoughtful kids in the entire class this whole process wasn't easy, especially the end.

"It was very difficult because Illinois, Michigan, and Purdue were in the game were such a long time to tell them I wasn't going there was tough, but I just felt Ohio State was the place for me," he explained.

Bates-Diop is ranked as the No. 27 prospect in the class of 2014.
