Clark: Quick Hitters

News and notes on some of the top prospects in the Mid-Atlantic region.

On Tuesday night, 2014 Charlotte (N.C.) Christian Jeb Blazevich announced his final six schools –in alphabetical order – Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Ole Miss. While Blazevich confirmed with FOX Sports Next that those are his final six schools, he did mention that Virginia Tech is a school that could also be under consideration. Coaches from Alabama visited Blazevich at school on Tuesday.

Four-star 2014 Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith defensive lineman Andrew Brown has more than 30 scholarship offers and several big-time college programs have been on the Tigers' campus. Over the past few days, coaches from Florida, Georgia, West Virginia, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina have been by to see the 6-foot-4, 285-pound junior. However, Florida's Will Muschamp is the only head coach that has been to Brown's school.

Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson was in Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesday morning and stopped by Charlotte Catholic to see 2014 running back Elijah Hood. The Yellow Jackets, along with Clemson, North Carolina Notre Dame, and Ohio State are the schools standing out for the four-star prospect.

Coaches from Florida were at Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley on Tuesday to see four-star outside linebacker Chris Register. Register has offers from Clemson, Duke, Indiana, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Tennessee. Look for that number to grow significantly in the near future.

Coaches from Duke, North Carolina, and UNC-Charlotte stopped by to see 2014 Swansboro (N.C.) wide receiver DeAndre Thompkins last week. Penn State defensive coordinator Ted Roof will be in town on Friday to see Thompkins. Along with Penn State, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Old Dominion, and UNC-Charlotte have all offered the speedy receiver. One school to keep an eye on is Baylor. The Bears' coaching staff was very impressed with his film and I would not be surprised if they extended an offer in January.

2014 Pinetown (N.C) Northside wide receiver Josh Cabrera recently picked up an offer from Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound playmaker also has an offer from Duke.

Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes 2015 linebacker Jahvoni Simmons picked up offers from Virginia and Virginia Tech last week. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Simmons also has an offer from Old Dominion. He is one of the top sophomore prospects in Virginia.
