It has been a whirlwind month for Mt. Carmel and junior defensive end Enoch Smith Jr., describes the feeling of leaving Champaign as 8A State Champions.
"It was the best feeling I have ever felt, coming off that field with a victory," Smith said. "Just as a little kid I dreamed of winning a state championship, I made the transition to Mt. Carmel as a sophomore and even though we didn't win my sophomore year we worked hard.
He added, "To make our dreams come to reality it's really a dream come true."
And Smith, has an early front runner in the recruiting process.
"I am still undecided, but I would consider Notre Dame one of my front runners because they have been showing a lot of interest," Smith said. "And they are doing well on the field, although I don't pay as much attention to the on the field status, because the academics are very important to me and their engineering program is one of the best in the nation."
Smith plans on majoring in engineering, which is important to him in the process going forward.
"I would say I have heard from basically the entire Big Ten, some schools like UCLA, Stanford, USC, Cal, Washington, Washington State," Smith said. "It's a little bit of everywhere in regards to schools that have showed me interest."
Plus, Smith just picked up an offer from North Carolina State.
Even though Smith has gained national attention, he isn't ready to make any decisions yet.
"I just want to explore my options and see what is the best fit for me," Smith said. "Whether it is close to home or far away from home my parents are wiling to make trips to see my games wherever it is at." He continued, "Wherever the best fit for me is where I will go."
