Friday Night Lights

Throughout the high school football season, will be following the progress of Ohio State's football commitments. Here is how the OSU verbal commitments and their teams fared Dec. 14-15.

J.T. Barrett, QB, Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider – Barrett's Raiders ended their season with a 26-19 double overtime loss to Lancaster in a University Interscholastic League Class 4A Division II state semifinal at Justin Northwest.

Barrett, who had been sidelined for most of the season because of a knee injury, saw his team lead 19-12 with 5:22 remaining before Lancaster (14-1) rallied for a touchdown to send the game to overtime. Neither team scored in the first OT, but Rider emerged much more fortunate. The Raiders missed a 49-yard field goal attempt to begin the extra session, but Lancaster's Derrick Leanard then fumbled near the goal line to allow the game to continue.

Demarcus Ayers began the second overtime with a 3-yard touchdown for the Tigers. Rider's possession managed only three yards before it – and the game – ended on downs.

Rider concluded the season with a 12-3 record.

Joey Bosa, DE, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas – Bosa capped his prep career with a state championship thanks to a 41-25 win by St. Thomas Aquinas against Tallahassee Lincoln in the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 7A title game at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Bosa recorded four tackles – all solo stops – with a sack and three tackles for loss in the victory. The Raiders (13-2) fell behind 6-0 when John Burt gave Lincoln (12-2) the lead by returning the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. St. Thomas Aquinas dominated from there, however, scoring three first-quarter touchdowns to build a 21-6 advantage. Lincoln narrowed the deficit to 24-19 at halftime before the Raiders pulled away.

St. Thomas Aquinas outgained Lincoln 604-225. Leading the attack was quarterback John O'Korn, who threw for 339 yards on 11-of-26 passing with two touchdowns and an interception. Fred Coppett rushed for 151 yards, and O'Korn added 95 on the ground.
