USAAAB: East Defense Notes
This unit is very strong. Greg Webb may have had the best day. The North Carolina commit is strong, powerful, and made several plays in the backfield. He was better in the full team stuff against the run than he was in 1-1 pass rush, but he was definitely one of the top overall performers on the day. Kenny Bigelow is impressive as well. He's a very good athlete and made a couple nice plays, including a batted down pass and winning some one on one reps. The ends were very active. Jonathan Allen, Alquadin Muhammad, Jason Hatcher, Garrett Sickels and Wyatt Teller all had good showings. Muhammad is one of the quickest. He looks like an ideal 3-4 OLB. Allen and Hatcher wreaked havoc with their athleticism. Teller was impressive in drills, showing fluidity and agility and Sickels, after a quiet start, did very well in 1-1s and then made a nice play in the backfield in the scrimmage. LSU commit Frank Herron is very impressive on the hoof and had a good day as well. He had some success in the 1-1s.
Tough to tell too much from this group today. Dorian O'Daniel made a couple of nice plays in the scrimmage. He's a speedy, aggressive kid who looked good in drills as well. Peter Kalambayi was singled out by the coaches as one of the guys who had a good day today as well.
This is a very good group. We really liked Jalen Ramsey today. He has good size, hips and cover ability. In 1-1s, he took on one of the top receivers on the day, Demarcus Robinson, and broke up a quick slant. Then he broke up a deep ball later on. Kendall Fuller is a good sized kid who also won his share of 1-1 battles. Mackenzie Alexander also had a very good day in 1-1s, he had a nice, quick bust up and showed the hips to be able to turn and run deep with guys. Eli Apple is physical and got his hands on guys at the line. He really uses his size. Tray Matthews, for a bigger kid, is fluid, looked good in drills and then came away with a pick in 1-1s. Dymonte Thomas was quiet early, but had a good breakup in 7 on 7s.
