Powers Planning Visits

Salinas (Calif.) Palma defensive end Jack Powers will take a number of official visits in January...

January will be a busy month for Salinas (Calif.) Palma defensive end Jack Powers, who is currently planning his visits.

"I haven't taken any trips yet, but I have some trips lined up for the month. I plan on visiting Arizona State, Washington State, and probably Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. The only one scheduled right now is ASU on the 25th. I'm working on the others," he said.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pound prospect currently holds offers from Arizona State, Washington State, Utah, Utah State, and Fresno State, and is receiving heavy interest from Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. He's also been talking a bit with UCLA.

Now, Powers is working on narrowing down his options and figuring out what program fits him best.

"I want to go to a place where I can succeed both on the field and in the classroom. I'm open to playing whatever position in college. I have heard that some coaches see me at tackle, but I'm open to wherever I can succeed," he said.

The lineman, who lists footwork and ability to use his hands as some of his greatest strengths on the field, looks forward to adding to a college team.

"I felt like I had a successful season. I took on a lot of double and triple teams this year. I think I learned how to handle that a lot better, and I feel like I got bigger, stronger, faster, and more accustomed to the speed," he said.
