Hawkeyes Offer Watkins

Galion (Ohio) junior wide receiver-defensive back Dareian Watkins has added a Big Ten offer to his growing list.

Offer number 11 came in for Galion High's versatile junior Dareian Watkins today, as another Big Ten program jumped onto his list.

"Iowa just offered Dareian a few minutes ago," his father Heath Watkins reported. "Coach Ferentz said that he has the honor of being the first 2014 kid in Ohio to be offered by Iowa."

At 6'2, 185-lbs, Watkins has played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back, and his college position is yet to be determined, although the Hawkeyes compared him to one of their top defensive players.

"They will let Dareian choose at first, but they did say that they feel he compares well to Micah Hyde. They said that since he is very physical, they see him as a league type safety."

Watkins' other offers come from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Akron, Bowling Green, Ohio, Purdue and Toledo.
