Spartans Showing Early Interest

The recruiting process is getting off to a quick start for Vayante Copeland and Michigan State is a team of high interest for the Ohio native.

This past season saw Dayton (Ohio) Thurgood Marshall two-way standout Vayante Copeland have a breakout season.

College coaches have taken notice as Copeland has already earned a couple of offers. However, Michigan State looks to be a program turning the 5-foot-11, 180-pound standouts head.

"I picked up my first offer from Eastern Illinois," said Copeland. "I was just offered by Toledo and Bowling Green on Friday. Michigan State stopped by my school this week and I talked with (assistant) coach (Harlon) Barnett.

"I have a couple of friends like R.J. Williamson that go there and I know Michigan State has won their past two bowl games. I like the school a lot and also Coach Barnett a lot and could see myself as a really good fit up there."

Also hearing from West Virginia, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan, Copeland could look to make a summer camp visit with the Spartans.

"I'm not sure when their camp is," said Copeland. "But I'll be talking with Coach Barnett more and learning when it is. I'll definitely be trying to get up there for it."
