Maryland Teammates Take in Notre Dame

Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) class of 2014 teammates Jesse Aniebonam and Sam Mustipher were at Notre Dame for a "mini" junior day, and one came away with an offer.

Notre Dame hosted a handful of juniors Saturday, and included in the group were Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) teammates Jesse Aniebonam and Sam Mustipher.

Mustipher, an offensive lineman, left the campus with an offer. Aniebonam, a defensive end, was told an offer could be in the works during a 1-on-1 meeting with coach Brian Kelly.

For Mustipher, a 6-foot-, 280-pound guard, it was the latest in an impressive list of offers that also includes Clemson, Florida, Michigan, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio State and Penn State.

"I sat with coach Kelly and he said ‘I wanted to personally inform you that you have $63,000 a year (offer) to attend University of Notre Dame," Mustipher said. "Kind of surreal."

Aniebonam, who is 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, was told an offer could come soon.

"That is to come in, I believe, this month," he said. "In the event that I want to commit to go there, we may work out a package deal with me and (Mustipher.)."

It was a day-long visit to Notre Dame which included meeting with the coaching staff, touring the campus and watching the Irish beat Rutgers in basketball.

"It was very good," Aniebonam said. "We first started with just a bunch of presentations and talks and then we went in to our meetings with our position coaches, and I sat with (defensive coordinator Bob) Diaco. Then, we started all the tours and all the individual talks.

"I generally thought it was a good trip it was very good exposure, and I got to go 1-on-1 with coach Kelley, so that was good. And the campus is beautiful."

Aniebonam finished his junior season with 46 tackles, including 3 ½ sacks.
