Signing Day Impact: Tyquan Lewis

It's National Signing Day in America, and recruits are faxing their letters of intent to their schools of choice across the country. Who is in the fold at Ohio State for the class of 2013?

Urban Meyer loves collecting defensive linemen that can make an impact for Ohio State, and he has added another impressive athlete in Tyquan Lewis, 6-foot-4, 230-pounds.

The Tarboro (NC) defensive end impressed at the Ohio State summer camp, and committed to the Buckeyes in September. He will battle for playing time as a true freshman next season.

Lewis On His Camp Performance When Tarboro, N.C., linebacker Tyquan Lewis stepped onto the field at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Sunday, he knew he had something to play for. Ohio State had already expressed interest in him, but the three-star defender knew he had to perform well enough to leave a lasting impression on the Buckeyes staff. He was successful in doing so, as he left Columbus with a committable offer from Ohio State.

"It was non-committable before," Lewis said when describing the offer he had from the Buckeyes heading into the weekend, "but today (they gave me committable one). It means a lot. I have to get my mom back up here and we are going to sit down and discuss this and talk academics and things like that and see how everything is."

Lewis On The Ohio State Staff: "I've been in contact with the coaches just about every week -- talking to Coach (Everett) Withers and Coach (Mike) Vrabel," Lewis said. "They have been telling me how I can come in and make an immediate impact at linebacker. They've just told me to come in prepared and be ready to play."

Lewis is happy that Ohio State is having a great season and said he expected the Buckeyes to have success under first-year head coach Urban Meyer.

"I knew Coach Meyer was going to have something special going on up there," he said. "I believe if you have great coaches and you put the game plan together -- and the system starts clicking -- that's the way you win."
