RB Joe Mixon Profile
It was Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris who informed Freedom High School [Oakley] junior Joe Mixon that the Tigers had an offer for him.
"I called him and we were talking about the offers that I had. He told me that I had been offered. It never came into question because I'd never put it out there. He told me to put it out there," Mixon told CUTigers on Monday night.
The three-star running back has been in contact with Morris about once a week, for the past three months. Mixon was happy to learn that Clemson was offer No. 31.
"That's one I was hoping to get out of all of them," he said.
Morris played a role in making Clemson a factor for the No. 20 running back in the class of 2014. He's shared some of the ins and outs of Clemson's hurry-up, no-huddle offense.
"Basically, how they use their running backs and Sammy Watkins, the guy that I always pay attention to for Clemson, and their running backs," said Mixon, who will "definitely" visit Clemson.
But it'll be a little while before that happens.
"Probably during the summer, or during a game," Mixon said.
With a number of options, including Auburn, Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, Oklahoma and most of the Pac-12, Mixon is not in hurry to make a decision. That won't come until after his senior season.
As for the spring-time visit circuit, he hopes to head southward to Southern Cal for this weekend's junior day before hitting Cal's later this month.
As a junior, Mixon rushed for 1,443 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also racked up 341 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches
