Copeland Heating Up With New Offers

With an early offer from Michigan State one of Ohio's top prospects has seen interest rise in the past few weeks. checks in with Vayante Copeland for all the latest.

The past couple of weeks have been solid for Dayton (Ohio) Thurgood Marshall athlete Vayante Copeland as colleges across the Midwest have started showing heavy interest.

"I was just offered by Illinois," said Copeland. "I spoke with Coach (Alex) Golesh and he said they watched my highlight film and really liked it. I'm planning on going over there on Wednesday with Chunky (Jarrod Clements) to check it out for myself."

The Illini are not the only program showing high interest.

"I've been talking with West Virginia and Boston College," said Copeland. "I have also touched base with a coach at Nebraska.

"I went down to Cincinnati for their Junior Day and they offered. I like their new defensive back coach (Steve Clinkscale) who came over from Illinois. He seems like a really nice guy and I really liked the drills he was doing and how he was talking with me.

"This was the first time I actually witnessed a college practice and I was impressed as Cincinnati is close to home and has been a powerhouse program in the Big East. I also like the direction they are going with their new coaching staff as I liked the vibe being put off from the coaches."

Another program staying in contact is Ohio State and Copeland is hopeful a visit will happen soon.

"Sometime this spring I'm looking to visit Ohio State," said Copeland. "I've been talking with Coach (Tim) Hinton and he said they like me as an athlete and feel I'm one of the top players in Ohio.

"He said I have to get up there as soon as possible and I'm trying to make that work." will continue to track Vayante as he continues to pick up offers in the coming months.
