West Has Spartans In Final Four

Darius West has reduced his list of schools he's considering and Michigan State is one of four. Spartan Digest caught up with West for his thoughts on the Spartans.

One day after picking up an offer from Michigan State, Lima (Ohio) Central Catholic safety Darius West has decided he's close to making a commitment with the Spartans making his final four.

"Recruiting has been fun," stated West. "But there comes a time where you want to get somewhere and start recruiting for your new school."

While West claims no favorite the Spartans look to be in a solid position for the 6-foot, 195-pounder.

"I've not picked a school yet," said West. "But I have four schools I'll be deciding from in the next ten to fourteen days. I'm down to Michigan State, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Louisville."

West feels solid about what the Spartans have to offer now and in the future.

"I just talked with Coach (Harlon) Barnett the other day," said West. "Michigan State has had a top five defense the past few seasons and has been a winning program under Coach (Mark) Dantonio.

"Coach Dantonio is a defensive minded guy and has been there for a while now. So you know he's going to be there for a long time. I just love his demeanor and how he was trying to get a hold of me when my phone was off to offer me.

"Michigan State has shown me a lot of respect as they wanted me to come up to campus before they offered, but Coach Dantonio decided to do it.

"I've been around Coach (Mike) Tressel a lot as he recruited my former quarterback Tyler O'Connor a few years ago. So Michigan State was one of the first schools I talked with."
