PSU's 2014 Big Ten Slate Revealed

Old rivals Rutgers, Maryland and Michigan State return to the schedule in the new-look conference.

Old Eastern rivals Penn State and Rutgers will kick off the new-look Big Ten's 2014 football schedule. The Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights will square off in Piscataway, N.J., Sept. 13 of that year.

The game comes one week before the rest of the 2014 Big Ten football schedule begins.

Penn State's slate also sees the return of Michigan State (at Beaver Stadium Nov. 29) as the Nittany Lions' end-of-season matchup. Before the Big Ten added Nebraska for the 2011 season, PSU and MSU squared off for the Land Grant Trophy at the end of each season.

When the Cornhuskers joined the conference and the Big Ten separated into two divisions, the Lions and Spartans found themselves in different divisions. They have not played the last two seasons and will not face one another this year.

With the addition of Rutgers and Maryland to the Big Ten for 2014, the divisions have been reorganized. Penn State will be in the same division as the Scarlet Knights, Terrapins, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State.

Penn State renews its rivalry with Maryland at Beaver Stadium Nov. 1, 2014.

The Nittany Lions must still add two more non-conference games for the 2014 season. Penn State is trying to work out a deal to face UCF in Ireland Aug. 30 of that year.

A Penn State release says the Lions are slated to face Temple at Beaver Stadium on Aug. 30, 2014. That game will presumably be moved to a date later in the season or delayed until a future season if the deal is struck to face UCF in Ireland.
