Ohio State Recruiting Summary

Ohio State is moving forward with their efforts to secure a top-rated 2014 recruiting class. Where do things stand today with Urban Meyer's troops? Derek Young takes a look.

Commitment: Akron linebacker Dante Booker made the call this week to join the Buckeyes, giving Urban Meyer's group nine commitments for the class so far. He joins teammate Parris Campbell who joined the fold several months ago. Ohio State now has linebacker commitments from Sam Hubbard, Kyle Berger, and Dante Booker while still chasing prospects at the position such as Raekwon McMillan, Clifton Garrett, and Chase Winovich. Booker and Hubbard have the versatility to wind up at other positions, however.

Commitment Watch: Chase Winovich continues to maul a decision that should inevitably come down to the Buckeyes and Wolverines. A decision could happen at any time and it will be interesting to see if the Dante Booker commitment to Ohio State impacts his choice.

New Offers:

2014- The Buckeyes offered a pair of prospects this week who have already pledged to other schools. Ja'Von Harrison is a Virginia Tech commit but the nation's 12th rated safety was recently offered by Ohio State, in addition to Boston College commit and defensive lineman Harold Landry.

2015- Five prospects in the 2015 class were offered this week and four are from Virginia. Linebacker Ricky DeBerry, cornerback Garrett Taylor, wide receiver Jaason Lewis, and linebacker Jahvon Simmons, all of Virginia, were visited and offered by the Buckeyes this week. The fifth prospect offered was offensive lineman Jake Fruhmorgen of Florida.

2016- The Ohio State coaches have also begun to take a bit of a look at the class of 2016 prospects, and one that was offered this week was wide receiver Scott Bracey, also of Virginia.

Top Groups:

Derek Kief recently named a top five of Alabama, Kentucky, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. The Cincinnati standout has visited the Buckeyes' campus a few times and a summer return visit, or lack thereof, should tell the tale here.

Saeed Blacknall informed Scout this week of his top five (in order) of LSU, Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida State, and Ohio State. The Buckeyes have a lot of ground to make up in the chase for the four-star talent.

College Announcements:

Demarre Kitt's decision date gets closer and closer. He will choose the college he lines up at receiver for on June 10. I still think Clemson wins out for his services.

Jamarco Jones has an announcement slated for June 27 on what college to choose from. Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State are the finalists but Ohio State and Michigan State look to have the best shot at landing the top 100 player. The Buckeyes would be my pick but the Spartans could sneak in and nab the Chicago offensive tackle.

Big Upcoming Visit: Brandon Harris.

Ohio State Rising?

Derrick Nnadi is a four-star prospect from Virginia that has a top two of Virginia and Virginia Tech. Once narrowing his focus on the in-state schools, Nnadi has begun to consider four other schools that include Florida State, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State.

Andrew Brown is a five-star defensive tackle out of Chesapeake, Virginia. Ohio State is among a handful of schools that have a chance to make the cut to be in his top five list of schools.

Developing Situation: Four-star wide receiver Austin Roberts has taken a step back from his recruitment to consider other schools. He had wanted to decide on what college to attend at some point this month but with other offers pouring in he chose to slow it down and consider other schools. One school showing interest that really motivated him to elect to hold off any college decision was USC. They threw an offer Roberts' way yesterday and could come in and steal the Carmel, Indiana native.

Bump In The Rankings: Ohio State commit Sam Hubbard jumped into the top 100 for the 2014 class and is now the third rated outside linebacker in the nation. The Moeller product was relatively unheard of before his junior season but has now emerged as one of the nation's bests.

More Camp Visitors:

Stephen Collier is a three-star quarterback out of Leesburg, Georgia that plans to camp at Ohio State on June 9.

Terry McLaurin brought in the top SPARQ score at the NFTC in Chicago a few weeks ago. He will camp at Ohio State on June 9 in hopes of earning an offer.

Joseph Henderson is a defensive end from Shaker Heights, Ohio that will camp in June to earn a chance to be another defensive lineman in the Buckeyes' class.

Committed Elsewhere: Nick Ruffin to Auburn. Jonathan Haden to Arizona. Jabrill Peppers to Michigan.
