Surprise, surprise.

Before taking on Florida in its Southeastern Conference opener, the coaching staff at Tennessee received exciting news as Preston Williams offered his verbal commitment.

"They were very excited, said I made their day," Williams told InsideTennessee.

The wideout looked on as the Volunteers completed just 14 passes in a 31-17 loss to the Gators.

"I think they can use me," Williams said.

It was a number of reasons why the Georgia-based product chose the Orange & White.

"Just everything — the facilities, the coaches. I feel like I can make a name for myself my freshman year," Williams said. "Its where I've always wanted to go. I've always been a Tennessee fan."

Williams is a wide receiver at powerhouse Lovejoy (Ga.) High School and rated by FOX Sports and Scout as a four-star prospect. He says he doesn't know any of the other five players committed to Tennessee's 2015 signing class.

Tennessee doesn't have a verbal commitment from the senior class at quarterback but is grinding to get a talented signal-caller in the 2015 class. One possibility is right up the road is Harrison (Ga.) High's Lorenzo Nunez.

Williams wants someone who can feed him the football once he gets on Rocky Top.

"It's very important to me because I feel like me and that quarterback need to start getting that feel for each other," Williams said.

The Peach State product plans to come back to Knoxville to see the Vols play at Neyland Stadium versus both Georgia (Oct. 5) and South Carolina (Oct. 19).
