Recruiting News and Notes 10/14

Ohio State continues to pursue their top targets in the 2014 class. Another offer was also sent out along the offensive line and two major visit weekends approach.

Palm Beach Gardens (FL) Dwyer wide receiver Johnnie Dixon is the top prospect on the board for his position. He has taken official visits to North Carolina State, Arkansas, and Ohio State so far. Official visits to Alabama and Miami are also expected.

Spoke to a source with a connection to the Dixon recruitment and it appears it will come down to the Buckeyes and Miami. Ohio State still has work left to do here but they also have time and a legitimate chance.

Manahawkin (NJ) Southern Regional tight end Mike Gesicki is expected to make his college choice recently. He has completed his two scheduled official visits to Ohio State and Penn State. The Nittany Lions had him in town when they pulled the upset over Michigan.

His high school has a strong connection to Penn State and I think the comfort from that will be the difference maker and send him to play for the Nittany Lions.

Junior college offensive tackle Chad Mavety picked up an early offer from Ohio State and became even more of a priority for the Buckeyes' staff after they were spurned by Jermaine Eluemunor, who chose Arkansas over Ohio State.

Mavety visits the Buckeyes officially next month when Ohio State hosts Indiana. They wanted to move the visit up but his schedule didn't allow for it. Some fireworks could happen on that trip.

Brooklyn (NY) Abraham Lincoln defensive tackle Thomas Holley was also at Penn State last weekend for an official visit but he will be visiting Ohio State this upcoming weekend for his second official visit. Like Gesicki, Holley's choice could very well come down to the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions as well.

I'm not as confident on it as I am with Mavety's official visit for the Indiana game, but there is a potential for some fireworks on Holley's official this weekend as well. I think it is something worth paying attention to.

Ohio State has some major visitors coming in the next two weekends. A few big official visitors will be arriving for the next few games.

Defensive tackle Thomas Holley will be in Columbus for the game this weekend. The following weekend the Buckeyes host Penn State for a night game. Five-star safety Jamal Adams has tentative plans to attend, as well as top linebacker target Raekwon McMillan.

Other visitors for the Penn State game in two weeks includes C.J. Conrad, Sterling Jenkins, Andre Robinson. Brandon Wimbush, Lorenzo Nunez, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Jacques Patrick.

Other names not confirmed but I suspect could be on hand are Matt Elam, L..J. Scott, Jerome Baker, Justin Hilliard, James Daniels, Anthony McKee, and Danny Clark.

The Buckeyes should be able to land Chad Mavety to go along with current commits Kyle Trout, Marcelys Jones, Jamarco Jones, and Demetrius Knox that would arguably form one of the strongest groups at the position in the nation.

Chanhassen (MN) offensive lineman Frank Ragnow was also just offered. He has an impressive offer list and had been in contact with the Buckeyes for a while. The offer probably comes as a result of their chances with Damian Prince and Alex Bookser dwindling. Bookser and Prince are both expected to land elsewhere.

Ragnow was immediately excited about the offer and is hoping to take an unofficial visit to Ohio State this weekend. A sixth lineman being added to the class would not surprise me and Ragnow is definitely a candidate to join the group.
