This year, the Buckeyes will start top 10.
That's where the USA Today coaches' poll has the Buckeyes, who will attempt to make it to the regional semifinal level of the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season this year under head coach Thad Matta.
The coaches' poll put OSU 10th, as the Buckeyes are coming off a 29-8 season that ended with a surprising loss to Wichita State with a Final Four bid on the line.
The Buckeyes are one of three Big Ten teams in the top 10. Michigan State (27-9 last year) checks in second while last year's national runner-up, Michigan (31-8), is one spot ahead of the Buckeyes in ninth.
Wisconsin (23-12) is ranked 21st, Indiana (29-7) is 24th while Iowa and Illinois are receiving votes.
Two Ohio State nonconference opponents are also ranked, as Marquette (Nov. 16) is 17th and Notre Dame (Dec. 21) is 22nd.
The rest of the top 10 reads like a who's who of college basketball. Despite finishing unranked last year, Kentucky is ranked No. 1 followed by the Spartans, defending national champion Louisville, Duke and Arizona to complete the top five. Kansas, Syracuse and Florida are ranked sixth through eighth, respectively.
