2015 Orlando (FL) Timber Creek running back Jacques Patrick is no stranger to the midwest. He took a tour during the summer that saw him make visits to Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State.
This past weekend he returned to get another glimpse of the Buckeyes' program.
"It was pretty fun," Patrick said of the Ohio State trip. "I had a good time up there. I got to speak with Coach (Urban) Meyer for an hour. I got to hang out with Coach (Stan) Drayton."
"Coach Meyer cracks jokes about me a lot," he continued. "He makes fun of me and Coach Drayton. He says things like Drayton Patrick and Jacques Drayton because we are a lot alike and Coach Drayton is always talking about me."
The Orlando junior was also called by another nickname frequently and it was related to the similarities between him and current Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde.
"I get called 'Baby Carlos' a lot up there too," Patrick laughed. "The fans, players, coaches, and even the other recruits were all in on it. Even Braxton (Miller) calls me Baby Carlos now. It is very comfortable and relaxing there."
Carlos Hyde isn't just the source for Patrick's nickname either. The four-star running back has been intrigued by Hyde's role in the offense as well.
"I really like Ohio State and a lot of that is just from watching Carlos Hyde and seeing them use him," Patrick explained. "He is one of the best running backs in the country, if not the best. He fits really good in that offense and is producing. A lot of people say that we are similar. That is appealing to me. He's from Florida, too."
"I really focus on how they use their running backs," he continued. "I know that Ohio State is a good team and always has great atmospheres for their games. Everyone knows that. The main thing I am watching is how they use the players at my position. It all looks good so far."
Relationships with coaching staffs will also be a key factor for Patrick and he admits that he has a strong one with the regime in Columbus.
"It is a really good relationship, especially with Drayton and Meyer," he noted. "The entire staff at Ohio State is real good with me, though. I got a ton of handwritten letters from them today and a couple were from Coach Fickell and Coach Vrabel. The strength and conditioning coach even sent me one."
When asked where Ohio State stood, Patrick had this to say.
"I'm going to have a top ten list of schools after my season and Ohio State will definitely be on it. I hope to visit Ohio State again another time before I start to take my official visits. I'll definitely take an official visit up there."
Patrick is the nation's 13th best running back in the 2015 class. He may visit Florida State this weekend for their showdown against Miami.
