RUNNING BACK (2)
The Buckeyes lose Jordan Hall and Carlos Hyde after this season and Rod Smith exits after the following season. That leaves Ezekiel Elliott, Warren Ball, and Bri'onte Dunn remaining on the roster. Parris Campbell enters the picture but he has been repeatedly told he will be used in the slot when he arrives on campus. I still tend to think he ends up in the backfield. Running back becomes a need in the 2015 class for those reasons.
TOP TARGETS: Sotonye Jamabo and Jacques Patrick
Eric Glover-Williams is listed as a running back in the database but I'll consider him as a wide receiver for now since that is the position he performed at during the camps at Ohio State over the summer.
Jamabo and Patrick are high up on the board among running back prospects for the Buckeyes' staff. Patrick has already been to campus twice and hopes to visit a third time before his official visit next fall. Patrick's recruitment will be difficult to win and the stiffest competition for Ohio State will come from Florida and Florida State.
Jamabo hasn't visited Ohio State yet but has a close relationship with the Mitchell family. Mike is already enrolled at Ohio State while Mickey is the same age as 'SoSo' and already has announced his intentions to play for the Buckeyes. Jamabo visiting the Ohio State campus with the Mitchells at some point would not surprise me.
OTHER TARGETS: L.J. Scott, Darrin Hall, Mike Weber, Natereace Strong, Taj Griffin, Chris Warren, and Bryce Love
The in-state possibilities include Scott and Hall. Neither have an offer but have gotten looks from the Buckeyes. Scott is the top player in the state for the 2015 class and Hall possesses some of the talents that the Ohio State regime looks for in a running back.
Both Scott and Hall are nice prospects but they trail Jamabo and Patrick on the board and won't get a fake offer like prospects in other areas of the country will. If they get an offer, you know business is about to pick up.
The Buckeyes really like Cass Tech's Mike Weber but the Spartans have the advantage and may add him to the fold sooner than later.
Strong has an offer but has yet to visit the campus. He plans to sometime in the offseason with teammate Terry Beckner, who also holds an offer. Taj Griffin is in similar situation to strong. He holds an offer and plans to visit after his season with teammate Chuma Edoga.
Bryce Love is a fast running back that is a star track athlete as well. Ohio State is an offer Love wanted and he has already visited the campus. He has an assistant coach that used to play for the Buckeyes as well.
Chris Warren has also already visited Columbus. The Buckeyes are in his top group and a team to watch. He suffered a serious knee injury this year and hasn't played very much.
OUTLOOK: I think the Buckeyes continue to play the waiting game with Jamabo and Patrick before they seriously pursue any of the other backs in the stable.
I think they have a better chance with Jamabo. The connections are there for them to have the upper hand. Texas A&M will be the team to battle for Jamabo. That is a bit easier than fighting Florida and Florida State for Jacques Patrick.
