SFE Day-One: OSU News

The famed South Florida Express 7on7 tryout camp is in the books, and over 250 athletes showed off their skills Saturday. How might this camp affect Ohio State recruiting?

- It's amazing what Brett Goetz has done with the South Florida Express, and this 7on7 tryout is the premier event in the country. Over 250 athletes tried out for the team Saturday, with 40 or so being brought back Sunday.

- Torrance Gibson is a freak, and nobody hates that term more than I do. Every marginally talented athlete gets hit with that tag, and it's borderline comical. Ohio State has no freak athletes on their roster currently. Terrelle Pryor was a freak, but Gibson is a better athlete.

- Gibson MUST be recruited as a QB, which is good for Ohio State because that eliminates a lot of schools. When God created the zone read He had Torrance Gibson in mind. His throwing would be similar to Braxton Miller at the same age, and I can see why people see him as a WR. He might be the best QB prospect in America, and he probably is the top WR prospect in the country. I think he could be an All-American safety.

- Ohio State is in GREAT shape with Gibson, but he is a great player in the South, so this is just the layup line, not the actual game. LONG way to go. Tom Herman was in the school Friday, and the American Heritage staff thinks a lot of him and Urban Meyer. They have said he is the #1 target on their board and I believe it 100%.

- Linebacker Sh'mar Kilby-Lane was impressive, even though 7on7 is not his game. He is a downhill middle linebacker, and Ohio State needs one desperately. He will be visiting for the spring game, and a commitment could/should be soon after. I have him as "IN" the 2015 class. A matter of when, not if. He is an impressive athlete that can run, but he is a big hitter which Ohio State really needs.

- Defensive back Tavarus McFadden got his Ohio State offer yesterday, and this was big because he is a great prospect, and he is Gibson's close friend. This is one to watch for both of those reasons. He REALLY likes the Buckeyes too, and wanted that offer.

- Kendrell McFadden (no relation) is a Richard Sherman type cornerback that is committed to West Virginia. He also has visits upcoming to Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State, so good luck to the Mountaineers. One to watch obviously. Probably a spring game visit.

- Sophomore safety Cedric Wright of Gulliver Prep is a Lamarcus Joyner type safety with a ton of offers. He is VERY interested in Ohio State and REALLY wants that offer. He should not have to wait too long, in my opinion.

- Sunday will see the best of the best return, and that should be even better. Will have a second report later on Sunday evening.
