Fullwood Gets Buckeye Offer

Three-star Olney (MD) Good Counsel defensive end Darius Fullwood picked up an Ohio State offer last week. The addition of Larry Johnson to the Buckeye staff could pay dividends.

2015 Olney (MD) Good Counsel defensive end Darius Fullwood has seen his stock soar over the last few months. He's picked up interest from several more schools.

One of those schools was Ohio State. Up until this week they had yet to offer, but after the hiring of Larry Johnson, the Buckeyes extended Fullwood a scholarship offer.

"I was very excited," said Fullwood. "They are a team I liked to watch growing up. I think I could do a lot of good things there if I chose them."

"I thought that with Coach Johnson going to Ohio State, an offer was possible," he continued. "He recruited me hard at Penn State, harder than any other coach. We've been in contact a lot and have a great relationship. I went to the Penn State spring game and performed for him at summer camp. He's one of the best defensive line coaches in the country in my opinion."

His Ohio State offer didn't come from Johnson, however.

"When I heard Coach Johnson was leaving I thought he would continue to recruit me," explained Fullwood. "When I saw that he was moving to Ohio State I thought something definitely might happen and I was hoping it would. Coach Meyer was actually who offered me, though."

"We talked on the phone and he offered me then," he added. "We joked around a lot. He's a real cool guy. He's laid back. He's one of my favorite coaches so far in this process. He's not always serious and can joke around and I like that. He saw my film and thinks I can do big things. He said Coach Johnson put in a good word for me too. They really want me at Ohio State."

Fullwood is not new to Ohio State. He attended a Buckeye game in Columbus over the fall for a visit.

"I've been up there for a game when they played Indiana at home," he told Scout. "I got to be in the team meeting before the game. I talked to Coach Fickell and Coach Vrabel a lot on that visit which was real cool."

The three-star defensive end announced a top five a month ago but is choosing to back away from any favorites at this time.

"I had a top five list of schools," Fullwood noted. "I'm going to step back and start all over again with Ohio State coming in. "I'll probably have a top eight in a few weeks. A few more offers from schools that would make a difference could come too. Ohio State will be very high in that top group."
