Mitchell was a five-star member of Ohio State's class of 2013 out of Plano Prestonwood Christian but did not play this year, taking a redshirt despite problems with depth the Buckeyes fought at linebacker all season. He was expected to be a key member of the fight for playing time in 2014.
Mitchell set a national record in Sparq testing as a recruit and was rated the No. 2 middle linebacker in the nation last season. He was among the first freshmen to lose their black stripe this past fall but hit a wall during camp and ended up not cracking the rotation; by the time injuries hit the LB spot late in the season, he was already ticketed for the redshirt.
His younger brother, Mickey, is a five-star member of the class of 2015 and an OSU basketball commit, a status that could now be in limbo.
