Obviously, it's such a blessing and an honor to receive an offer from West Virginia," Newsome said. "They have such a great football program. It's an honor for the coaching staff to think highly enough of me to extend an offer."
Over the last couple of weeks, the 6-foot-6, 285-pound Newsome has been in contact WVU frequently.
"I've been talking to Coach Mitchell on Facebook for a little while," Newsome described. "I'm not that familiar with West Virginia but I'm looking forward to learning more. I've not had a ton of contact with them before, but I've been talking with them more."
Having a long list of offers to choose from, the process of eliminating programs could prove difficult. Currently, Newsome claims no favorites but has a tentative timetable for narrowing down.
"I'm still pretty wide open when it comes to my recruiting," he said. "I'm trying to look at what comes in and what other interest comes in and maybe this summer I'll begin to narrow things down."
With no spring or summer visit plans scheduled, Newsome does plan to see a couple of schools earning his interest.
"I don't have any plans set in stone yet, but I definitely look forward to visiting a couple of schools over the next couple of months."
Newsome is rated a four-star recruit by Scout.com and is the No. 22 prospect at the offensive tackle position.
