One of the top overall performers from this weekend was Gahanna (OH) Lincoln sophomore defensive/linebacker Jonathon Cooper, and he impressed at both Cincinnati and Indianapolis.
The word is now out on young Mr. Cooper, and the top 2016 prospect received some very good news Monday evening.
"I was offered by Illinois," Cooper stated. "Illinois talked to my high school coaches about me, and they told me to call Coach (Mike) Ward. When we spoke, he told me that Illinois wanted to be the first to offer me a scholarship."
"The feeling is so amazing, and I was so happy to land my first offer from such a great school," he continued. "They said they watched my film, and after talking with my coaches they felt I was the type of player they want at Illinois."
The offer capped off a great weekend for Cooper, one in which his two combine performances established him as one of the top 2016 prospects in the state of Ohio.
"The past couple days have been so amazing for me, and I know I have to work very hard right now," Cooper reported. "I don't plan on slowing down now at all, because I know I have to get a lot better."
Scout.com will continue to track Cooper over the next two seasons, as he is certain to add more offers.
