Holyfield Likes Bucks

2016 College Park (GA) running back Elijah Holyfield discussed the new Ohio State offer he collected.

2016 College Park (GA) Woodward Academy running back Elijah Holyfield holds ten offers early on his recruiting process, with the latest being from Ohio State and Tennessee.

The Buckeyes and Volunteers offered the son of former boxing heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield. Elijah discussed his offer from the Buckeyes.

"They came into my school recently and talked with my coaches," said Holyfield. "My coaches told me that Coach Coombs told them they had offered me. I'm really excited about it. I've watched them for a long time. I was real happy to find out that they were that interested in me."

"We weren't all Ohio State fans but we watch a whole bunch of football so it's one of the teams we watch closely," he added.

The success Ohio State had in the backfield the last couple years under Urban Meyer has Holyfield intrigued. Seeing Carlos Hyde carry the load has Holyfield interested in the Buckeyes.

"They've always had good running backs," Holyfield pointed out. "The tradition they have at that position is great. I watched them a lot more this year because I like Carlos Hyde a lot. He's one of the players I've tried to take after and run like. I just like the way they run the ball. I'm a fan of Urban Meyer, too."

Holyfield shared what he's heard from the Buckeye staff so far.

"I called Coach Coombs later on to talk to him," he noted. "They want me to get up there so I can meet Coach Drayton and Coach Meyer in person. They're excited to offer me and really want me to visit over the summer. I think we will visit there in June. There's a camp going on at the same time but I'm not sure if I'm performing in it. I have to figure it out with my own coaches."

The 5-foot-11, 195 pound junior-to-be has an idea of how he wants to approach his recruiting process, and the Buckeyes could be in the thick of it.

"All of my options are still open but I like Ohio State a lot," Holyfield admitted. "They're close to the top. I'm going to wait out and see what other schools to decide offer. I really do like Ohio State a lot, though. I'll probably decide on a school a lot later on in the process."
