BuckeyeSports.com had a chance to catch up with new Ohio State cornerback Damon Webb recently at the Sound Mind Sound Body camp in Detroit. Here's what Webb – who is now on campus with the rest of the class of 2014 – had to say about his upcoming arrival at OSU and life in general.
You spent your senior year in Detroit as an Ohio State commit. What was that experience like?
It's been great. I feel like the bad guy. A lot of people look at me like I'm the bad guy. I just want to show the people that they can go out of state. You don't have to stay in state.
What's your favorite football memory?
My favorite football memory was the first game I came to Cass Tech (junior year of high school). That was the best game I ever had. I had a pick, two forced fumbles and two touchdowns. A lot of people hadn't seen me play in pads, they'd just seen me play at camps. I feel like that was the greatest game for me.
Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
Not really… I just listen to my music and try to get hyped.
What songs do you listen to before games?
I listen to a lot of local artists from here in Detroit.
If football didn't exist, what sport would you be playing instead?
I feel like I could have played baseball. My dad got drafted by the Detroit Tigers coming out of high school. Baseball was always in my family.
What's something about Detroit that you'll miss in Columbus?
The thing that I'll miss is my Cass Tech family. Just being away from those guys… especially my senior class, we really formed a brotherly bond. I'm going to miss that.
This class had a lot of out-of-state commits. Who in the class did you best get to know?
I'm close with Jalyn Holmes, Parris Campbell, Dante Booker… Raekwon (McMillan) and Johnnie (Dixon), I got to know them, too.
You did some recruiting work for Ohio State as one of the earliest commits in the class? Which member of Dream 14 did you really want to end up in Columbus?
I really wanted Raekwon. Coach Meyer told me from day one that he was one of the top guys. Curtis Samuel, too.
What opposing stadium are you most looking forward to playing in?
The Big House.
If you had to recommend a member of Dream 14 other than yourself to follow on Twitter, who would it be?
I would choose Johnnie Dixon. He tweets a lot of funny stuff.
When did you know Ohio State was the right place for you?
Honestly, I committed after my junior year in the winter. That whole season, I knew I was going to end up at Ohio State.
