Although Ohio State recruiting was slow throughout the spring, the 2015 class picked up a lot of momentum once summer arrived, and there could be more good news coming in a few days.
What will commitments from Hilliard and Cornell mean to Ohio State's 2015 recruiting class?
Jashon Cornell: Defensive end. 6-foot-4, 245-pounds. FOUR-STAR. Cornell brings versatility to the defensive line, much like the previously committed Dre'Mont Jones. Both players figure to be strong-side defensive ends, with the ability to slide inside like current lineman Adolphus Washington. The commitment of Cornell would also be an assist to defensive line coach Larry Johnson, and just reinforce his reputation as a super recruiter. Feeling strongly about the possibility of adding Cornell could also explain why the Buckeyes passed on Darius Fullwood, and that move could also leave room for Josh Sweat, another highly rated defensive end.
Justin Hilliard: Linebacker. 6-foot-1, 225-pounds. FOUR-STAR. The commitment of Hilliard would help ease the loss of Sh'mar Kilby-Lane to Florida State, and it would also add another versatile player to the Buckeye roster. Hilliard can play inside or outside linebacker in the Buckeye defensive scheme, and he also comes from a great high school program. This was definitely not a slam dunk for the Buckeyes, so Urban Meyer and Luke Fickell deserve a ton of credit should Hilliard pledge to the Buckeyes. Future position coach means so much in recruiting, and it appears Fickell has struck gold again in the linebacker group. Hilliard is also a commit that will actively recruit other players, so his decision could also aid future recruiting efforts.
BANKS'S PREDICTIONS? Ohio State lands both four-star prospects this coming Wednesday, then turns the attention to linebacker Jerome Baker, runningback L.J. Scott and runningback Damien Harris. I could see all five players in the commit column for Ohio State by the end of July. The Buckeyes are currently ranked at number-21 in the country for 2015 recruiting. That ranking should only climb higher and higher as the players listed make their selections.
