On this day 75 years ago, Lou Gehrig made his famous "luckiest man" speech. Gehrig retired from the game of baseball after 16 great seasons with the New York Yankees. He suffered from a degenerative nerve disorder that was later named after him.
Gehrig held the record for the most consecutive games played (2.130) until Cal Ripken, Jr. eclipsed his mark.
