LeBron Expected At VT Game

Urban Meyer ended his post-practice updates by saying he believes LeBron James will be in Ohio Stadium on Saturday night.

Ohio State's Wednesday media availability started with head coach Urban Meyer, who finished with some pretty big news.

“I think he’ll be in town,” Meyer said about LeBron James in regard to the Virginia Tech game.

The rest of the updates from his interview are as follows:

- Meyer called Virginia Tech OC/QB coach Scott Loeffler “a great guy and a great coach.” He was Meyer’s QB coach at Florida in 2009-10. Meyer noted that their history really has no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of the game Saturday.

- Meyer said Virginia Tech is a very good team, not overlooking the Hokies.

- Meyer said the offensive line is “no longer rookies,” also noted that they showed improvement in the second half against Navy.

- When he looks at the tape, Meyer said he sees a couple of NFL-caliber players on the Virginia Tech defensive line.

- Asked about Ohio State’s recruiting emphasis on Virginia, Meyer says that it’s more of just that they recruit nationally and Virginia happens to have a lot of good players.

- Meyer on “It always has (been an area of focus), just the respect we have for the ball players that come out of that area.

- Meyer says that he and Frank Beamer are very good friends. “Just from the Nike trips we’ve gone on for years, and Cheryl and my wife are very good friends. Again, I talk football with him and special teams, I told that story, back in 1998 or something like that was the first time that I really became engrossed with the kicking game and that was because of Coach Beamer.”

- “He’s kind of aggressive. You know, in the old days, punt returners wouldn’t hold up and hope for a fair catch, get the ball back. He was a guy that just started storming the castle blocking punts, just real aggressive. You remember back in the day, even not that long ago recently, where they would win games because of that.”

- Meyer was asked about how he feels about his own special teams unit. “We have more depth than we had last year. Last year we had one guy on all four phases. This is… it remains to be seen, but they played very well Saturday. We just gotta knock one out on a return. But the coverage units are really good.”

- With so many prospects slated to be in Columbus on Saturday, Meyer spoke about the atmosphere of a night game in Ohio Stadium. “It’s a big recruiting game and it’s a great national audience… night game, Buckeye-style and that stadium’s awesome.”

- Ohio State was wearing the chrome helmets used in alternate uniforms.
