OSU Recruiting: Mid-Week Report

Ohio State will host Illinois this Saturday night, and there will be several recruits on hand. The numbers appear to be shaking out and there just might be more room in this class than earlier thought.

- Things sure seem to be trending Ohio State's way for big-time safety Rashad Roundtree, and his official visit is crucial to the Buckeyes getting his signature. There are Ohio people in his life, and a more telling sign is how the Georgia staff is feeling. After being supremely confident in landing Roundtree, the Bulldog folks are feeling Roundtree is slipping away according to inside sources.

- The Buckeyes still need offensive line help, and Matthew Burrell is a highly desired target. Burrell visited Penn State last week and that went well, REALLY well. Burrell's father has a great relationship with James Franklin, and although a decision won't come for a while, the Nittany Lions could be ahead of Ohio State today.

- JUCO offensive tackle Tyler Howell is on the Buckeye board, and it looks like things could be heating up. It's been confirmed that Ohio State is recruiting Howell the hardest, so this one bears watching.

- There's nothing really new with Torrance Gibson, and only Miami and Auburn are really chasing him, other than Ohio State. This one is in the Buckeye corner right now, but there's a long way to go in this one. If things stay the same, Ohio State will be signing Torrance Gibson.

- Although Christian Wilkins and Neville Galimore are at the top of the defensive tackle board, Pickerington Central's DaVon Hamilton has been hearing from Ohio State lately. The Pittsburgh commit would be a PLAN-B recruit, and worth watching going forward. He could be this year's Brady Taylor.

- Gallimore is supposed to be visiting Ohio State for the Michigan game, and the Buckeyes are still in the game for him. The official visit needs to occur, and will be key in landing the four-star tackle.

- Ohio State would love to add another playmaker at wide receiver, and Michigan commit Brian Cole would be interested. To date, the Buckeyes have not really shown much interest in Cole. Lawrence Cager is still out there uncommitted as well, so he is also in the picture.

- A defensive back class of Roundtree and Jamel Dean at safety, with Eric Glover-Williams and Denzel Ward at cornerback would be impressive.

- It seems like the addition of Jerome Baker will complete the linebacker class.

- Ohio State wants to add a runningback in this class, and it's been fascinating to watch the recruitment of the three major Midwest talents. Derek Young is adamant that Damien Harris all but a done deal to Kentucky, and the way Ohio State is now pursuing L.J. Scott and Mike Weber looks like they believe it also.

- Right now, it looks like Weber could be favoring Michigan State, who took Scott's commitment last summer. How would landing Weber affect Scott?

- While Scott will be visiting Michigan State in two weeks for the Ohio State game, don't be stunned to see him sitting in the Horseshoe as a Buckeye recruit for the Michigan game. Ohio State is recruiting Scott VERY HARD and they have not walked away from him at all. There is a long way to go at this position, and it's going to be fun seeing how things play out.
