Baker rushed for two touchdowns in the win, reaching the end zone on wildcat runs of 77 and 1 yard, respectively. The Bengals will face Region 13 champion Steubenville (10-3) next week.`
Joey Burrow, QB, The Plains (Ohio) Athens: No. 4 Athens (13-0) claimed the OHSAA Division III Region 9 title win a 52-20 win vs. No. 7 Columbus DeSales (10-3). Burrow completed 22 of 28 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns. He added 135 yards and two more scores. Burrow even caught a touchdown pass on a ball that he threw. It was tipped in the air, and Burrow caught it and took it into the end zone. It was Athens' first regional crown after losing two consecutive regional title games. “We got there the last two years and couldn’t pull it out,” Burrow told the Athens Messenger. “This year, our motto was, we broke to ‘Regional Championship’ after ever time we lifted, every time we left the field. And we finally got it done.” Next up for the Bulldogs is a state semifinal showdown with Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.
Jamel Dean, CB, Cocoa, Fla.: Cocoa (11-1) won a Florida High School Athletic Association Class 4A-3 regional championship with a 26-21 win at Clewiston (11-1). Dean caught a 7-yard touchdown pass in the first half on offense and finished with 97 total yards. The Tigers will face Miami Washington (12-0) next week in a state semifinal.
Kevin Feder, OT, Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep: The Ironmen (7-3) blew a 17-6 third-quarter lead and ended their season with a 18-17 loss in a New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Non-Public Group 4 semifinal vs. Paramus Catholic (9-1). Marquise Spence caught the game-winning touchdown pass on a 12-yard connection with quarterback Willy Hansen.
Torrance Gibson, QB, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage: Gibson threw a pair of touchdowns and rushed for another as American Heritage (9-3) blasted Naples Lely (8-4) 43-13 in a FHSAA Class5A regional semifinal. Gibson threw for 125 yards and rushed for 106 more. The Patriots face Cape Coral Island Coast (10-2) next week in a regional final.
Tyler Green, WR, Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic: Second-seeded DeMatha (9-3) capped its season with a 24-20 win against No. 1 Olney Our Lady of Good Council (10-2) in the Washington Area Catholic Conference championship game. The Stags trailed 14-0 in the first half before rallying for the victory.
George Hill (junior), RB, Hubbard, Ohio: Hill's season came to an end as second-seeded Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (11-2) posted a 26-23 win against No. 1 Hubbard (12-1) in the OHSAA Division III Region 7 final.
Justin Hilliard, MLB, Cincinnati St. Xavier: Hilliard made six tackles, all solo stops, but No. 2 St. Xavier (10-3) fell 21-0 to sixth-seeded Cincinnati Moeller (10-3) in an OHSAA Division I Region 2 semifinal.
Denzel Ward, CB, Macedonia (Ohio) Nordonia: Ward caught six passes for 58 yards, and No. 2 Nordonia (12-0) claimed the OHSAA Division II Region 4 title with a 52-14 win vs. No. 1 Grafton Midview (12-1). Two of his receptions went for touchdowns of 36 and 14 yards, respectively. Nordonia will face Mayfield (12-1) in the state semifinal round.
