Ohio State has the best assistant coach in the country.

Offensive coordinator Tom Herman, who has dealt with three quarterbacks over the course of a Big Ten title season, was named the Broyles Award winner on Tuesday. He beat out Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, Missouri defensive coordinator Dave Steckel, Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost and TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meachem.

Herman is the first Ohio State assistant to win since Jim Heacock won in 2007 and the first offensive coach to win it since 2010, when Auburn's Gus Malzahn took home the award.

Ohio State ranks eighth in the country in total offense, averaging 507.6 yards per game. The Buckeyes also rank fourth in scoring offense after putting up 45.2 points per contest in the first 13 games. Both of those benchmarks came despite a season-ending injury to quarterback Braxton Miller and the departure of four starters on the offensive line as well as leading rusher Carlos Hyde.
