BSB TV: National Championship Celebration

Ohio Stadium played host to the Ohio State national championship celebration Saturday morning.

It has been 12 days since Ohio State won the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship Game, but the Buckeyes were truly crowned today in Ohio Stadium.

Approximately 45,000 fans crowded into the stadium to witness the hour-long celebration.

After comments from politicians, athletics director Gene Smith and Ohio State University President Michael Drake, head coach Urban Meyer was introduced. The coach began by thanking the fans for their support throughout the season and then spoke about the closeness of the 2014 Buckeyes.

Meyer introduced Nik Sarac as an example of that closeness as the walk-on earned a scholarship, but he and his father elected to offer that scholarship to a player that needed it more than he did. Meyer then officially named wide receiver Evan Spencer a captain for the 2014 season and the senior was the first player to address the crowd.

Following the wide receiver, Meyer introduced quarterbacks Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones and the three addressed the crowd. Miller, who is enrolled for spring semester at OSU, did not comment on whether he was planning to return to Ohio State, but did say, “We’ve got another year to do it.”

Captain Jeff Heuerman then thanked the crowd on behalf of the team before Meyer introduced “super sophomores” Joey Bosa and Ezekiel Elliott.

There was hardware to be handed out as Meyer and the team were presented with the AFCA Coaches’ Trophy, The Associated Press national championship trophy and the College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy.

As always, the celebration ended with Carmen Ohio.
