Instant Impact: Grant Schmidt

Another member of the Ohio State 2015 recruiting class has faxed his letter of intent to the Buckeye coaching staff. Grant Schmidt is officially a Buckeye.

Grant Schmidt

SCHOOL: Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

SIZE: 6-foot-7, 290-pounds

POSITION: Offensive tackle

POSITION RANKING: Number-56 offensive tackle.

SCOUTING REPORT: Schmidt has a big frame and is in good shape as a lean kid without a ton of body fat. He has good athleticism and can move and run better than most kids his size. He is still learning in terms of technique, particularly in pass protection. He has all the tools to be great in that area but has to keep polishing his game and get stronger. He plays hard, gives great effort and is a smart, coachable kid. He will have to adjust to college competition. - Doug Kimmel.

WHY Ohio State? "I decided during camp that it was the place I wanted to be at," he said. "Being coached up by them and being around the coaches clinched the deal for me. I decided to go forward and let them know my intentions today. People think I set the tone and made my offer committable at camp yesterday, but it's been that way for two months now. I was informed I had that opportunity since Coach Warinner came out and visited me a couple months ago."

"When I was a freshman they were my dream school," Schmidt admitted about Ohio State. "It was a school I didn't think would ever work out for me. I was just some little kid from South Dakota. It was where I always wanted to go so I busted it to make it happen. It's nice to see that hard work does pay off."
