Instant Impact: Nick Conner

Another member of the Ohio State 2015 recruiting class has faxed his letter of intent to the Buckeye coaching staff. Nick Conner is officially a Buckeye.

Nick Conner

SCHOOL: Dublin Scioto

SIZE: 6-foot-3, 215-pounds.

POSITION: Linebacker.

POSITION RANKING: Number-25 outside linebacker.

SCOUTING REPORT: Outstanding pure football player. A throwback who is tough, aggresive and best when coming forward. Straight line and closing speed is solid and plays with an excellent motor. Good ability to fight his way through the wash, and shows good timing on the blitz. Sure tackler with good technique. Must continue to improve lateral agility and pass coverage skills. Defensive end is not entirely out of the question in college. - Allen Trieu.

WHAT IS THERE TO LIKE? First off, Nick Conner is a pure football player and in-state player that grew up wanting to play for Ohio State, so today's offer was a dream come true. He is also a four-star prospect, not some throw-in to fill out a roster. He is a physical player that loves to hit and compete, or the complete opposite of every linebacker that played for Ohio State last year not named Ryan Shazier. Conner is physically ready to play in the Big Ten now, and will only get stronger over the next year. I had him as an Ohio State recruit after seeing him for five minutes at the Best of the Midwest camp in Indianapolis last February. I have no doubt he can succeed at this level, although a redshirt year might prove to be beneficial. I believe he has enough athletic ability to play inside linebacker for Ohio State, although he is not a great athlete. - Bill Greene.
