Ohio State plays its first game of the 2015 season in just one week and the Buckeyes are in full game mode.

The Buckeyes are deep in preparation for Virginia Tech and Ohio State assistants and players spoke about what they can expect from their pending trip to Blacksburg, Va.

Ohio State offensive coordinator Ed Warinner spoke about the quarterback battle being waged at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, who needs to step up to replace the loss of Noah Brown and what he expects from the Hokies defense on Sept. 7.

Warinner’s counterpart, defensive coordinator Luke Fickell, also addressed his expectations for the Buckeyes’ trip to Virginia, including which young linebackers have stood out and the state of the depth at cornerback.

Next up were the Ohio State players, including newly selected captains Joshua Perry and Tyvis Powell.

Powell talked about the honor of being voted a captain by his teammates before addressing the Buckeyes’ quarterback battle from his unique position as Cardale Jones’ roommate.

Fellow captain Perry talked about the challenges presented by Virginia Tech, specifically quarterback Michael Brewer who excelled for the Hokies last season in Columbus.

Perry also spoke about being used in some packages at defensive end against the Hokies. With Joey Bosa suspended for the game, Urban Meyer has hinted that Perry could be used as a pass rusher and the linebacker described how that might work.

Senior tight end Nick Vannett spoke about what went wrong last season against Viringia Tech, what needs to change this time around and how his role might expand.

Senior defensive tackle Tommy Schutt, entering his first season as a starter, spoke about finally getting a chance to show what he can do, why it took this long and how he came to end up at Ohio State.
