Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer announced that the Buckeyes have a new starting quarterback, and J.T. Barrett will take the first snap of the game against Rutgers on Oct. 24.
"J.T has earned the right to start Saturday at Rutgers," Meyer said. "Just the sheer production. Cardale is going to play a very active part, too. We're hopeful to keep him very much involved. It was a difficult decision but the red-zone production and third-down production were the two areas that made the difference."
Meyer said he expects Jones to have a role similar to the one Barrett held earlier in the season before he became the red-zone option. He added that he didn't think the confidence factor was there with Barrett earlier in the season.
