Bank Blog: OSU Recruiting Summary

Ohio State is eagerly awaiting the dead period to end on January 15, so they can dive back into recruiting. The recent NFL exodus gave the Buckeyes clarity with their numbers.

- The early entry NFL guys have left Ohio State with a far weaker roster for 2016, but the good thing is that now they know exactly where they are with numbers. And they have room to add a few more recruits than originally thought.

- There are rumors of coaching changes for the Buckeyes. Urban Meyer has stated he knows of no changes coming, but I'm not sure he would be the most credible source for that info. I know of nothing coming, but there are rumblings that Tim Beck is a candidate for the vacant Texas San Antonio job. Larry Coker is out at UTSA, and Beck's name is out there.

- Ohio State still needs a linebacker or two in this class. Malik Harrison should be committed soon after his official visit. He is a project though. There could be more names coming in this position group.

Jalen Elliott has hit the radar in the past 24 hours, and they are kicking the tires with him. He is committed to Notre Dame, so I'm not sure where this might lead. They need another safety and another cornerback.

Jordan Fuller is another name that is hot right now, and that is for one good reason: Greg Schiano. There is great respect in the Fuller family for Schiano, and if Ohio State beats Notre Dame for this kid, the credit goes to Schiano. And Ohio State has a great shot. Depends on the visit.

Carlos Becker was amazing at Under Armour, and he will visit Ohio State in January. He would fit this defense perfectly, and I couldn't be higher on any defensive back left on the board. Florida State might be the favorite for Becker, but Ohio State wants him very badly. Again, the visit is key.

- Wide receiver is another hot spot. Donnie Corley announces Saturday, and Ohio State is in that one for sure. I know everyone has had Michigan State as the favorite for over a year, but he hasn't committed to them yet. And they have three wideouts committed. And Corley hates the idea of playing DB, which Michigan State has mentioned. Stay tuned.

- Jonah Morris is looking to visit January 15, even though Notre Dame told him they will drop him if he takes the Ohio State visit. Should Corley commit to the Buckeyes, Morris would be eliminated and not brought in for the visit. If Corley goes to MSU, it puts Morris in a tough spot because Binjimen Victor is still lurking out there.

- Quarterback is an absolute MUST position, and Dwayne Haskins is the target. Not sure where Haskins is going, but a great source at Under Armour told me emphatically that "Haskins will not go to Maryland." I think OSU has a great shot at him, but after seeing him all week at Under Armour, I have Joey Burrow as the far better player. You still need a QB, just not sure Haskins brings "star" to the table.

- BONUS CONTENT: I know that Rashaun Gary is headed to Michigan, and I think everyone knows that. Except one person: Greg Schiano. He is going to get an in-home visit with the family. Then he needs to secure the official visit. The family really respects Schiano. Pulling Gary from the Wolverines is going to take a Hail Mary from midfield on the last play of the game. But the Gary family is not shutting Schiano out at all. In fact, the door is being left open for Schiano to make his pitch. That's all you can ask for. Schiano and Larry Johnson have a shot here, albeit not a great one.
