Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 1:59:37 PM)
Hello all

RossfordBuck (Aug 7, 2003 1:59:46 PM)
Hi boss.

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 1:59:50 PM)
Things sound pretty positive from the camp front, as far as conditioning goes.

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:00:13 PM)
Who were #'s 39, 35, and 36 in the running backs picture?

RossfordBuck (Aug 7, 2003 2:00:17 PM)
Sounds like the team arrived in the best condition in years!

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:02:07 PM)
36 is Mike DeMaria I think... the others are probably walk-ons too

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:02:20 PM)
Does anyone else feel that Ross will have a breakout year?

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:02:29 PM)
Is dareus hiley redshirting this year?

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:02:37 PM)
So I guess Stan White is not a running back at this time?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:02:59 PM)
We won't know for a while if Hiley redshirts or not; it isn't decided right away

RossfordBuck (Aug 7, 2003 2:03:00 PM)
Ross definitely put in the off-season work, that is a bif part of the battle!

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:03:31 PM)
I saw him on his highlight tape...he has some wheels

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:03:32 PM)
Not sure what's up with White but I would guess TE

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:04:15 PM)
Thanks, sounds like we are going to have several very capable tight ends.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:05:28 PM)
Why is that all these Ohio players like Pierre Woods, and Carl Diggs go to Play for that team up north but you never see any big time talent play for OSU from Michigan. What kind of loyalty is that.

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 2:05:48 PM)
Craig Krenzel

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:05:57 PM)
That is only one...

RossfordBuck (Aug 7, 2003 2:06:08 PM)
a big one

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:06:18 PM)
Yes...but do you see my point

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:06:36 PM)
What did Coach T have to say on ESPN?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:06:36 PM)
I think it's probably a mistake to think that recruits have loyalty to OSU. Each player probably has a different reason though... I know Woods did, and I don't remember if Diggs got an OSU offer

dagat21 (Aug 7, 2003 2:06:46 PM)
Not as much big time talent in Mi as in Oh.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:07:36 PM)
Your right...If Ohio highschool allstars would play Michigan highschool allstars. it would be no contest

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:08:27 PM)
Does anyone else think the NCAA was overreacting when they limited fall practices?

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:08:35 PM)
yeah

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 2:08:50 PM)
yeah, but it's even for everyone, so not much you can say about it.

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:09:20 PM)
I just think you are going to end up with more injuries during the season.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:09:20 PM)
What's the latest on Maurice?

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 2:09:48 PM)
why is that ed?

LightningRod (Aug 7, 2003 2:10:00 PM)
Look at what is happenning with the Jacksonvillle Jags - 3 players succumb to heat (no more than 86 degree heat index) in 3 days. NCAA just being safe.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:10:12 PM)
There's so many conflicting things going around about Maurice that I'm not sure what to believe. I think everyone wishes it would get resolved soon

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:10:27 PM)
When Mo backs it back onto the field I hope he gets booed. he deserves it after all the cra* he's pulled. The bad part of that though is the kid is so fragile he will probably run and hide in a corner and sulk.

sandtraps (Aug 7, 2003 2:10:34 PM)
ed that concerned me too. But than football conditioning is year round

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:10:38 PM)
By not getting the hitting and conditioning in the fall, guys will be more vulnerable during the season

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:10:46 PM)
I'm going to the Washington game...I'm getting tickets in the upper corner...any idea if I will need binoculars...or is it not worth it to go

dagat21 (Aug 7, 2003 2:10:50 PM)
I just want to know one way or the other if Mo is oing to he on the team!

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:10:59 PM)
He'll hear the boo birds by road crowds, but I have a feeling the home crowd will give him a cheer

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:04 PM)
jd...it'll be worth it to go....

Chester (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:05 PM)
lol Mike68

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:14 PM)
It's not worth it, you might as well just give me your tickets

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:17 PM)
:)

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:27 PM)
Mike68 you were 18 once....think about it....we have made mistakes...his mistakes are just televised

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:27 PM)
I don't think we should boo any of the OSU players

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:35 PM)
i agree HOS..

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:36 PM)
I'll take your tickets. Who cares where the seats are!

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:11:45 PM)
I'd take seats in the bathroom..

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:12:18 PM)
Kirk what do you make of Ch 4 reporting last night that Mo will be cleared ?

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:12:19 PM)
I think booing is very negative to recruits when they are on visits. Win with class.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:12:22 PM)
I might have to draw the line there. Definitely don't want to spend any more time in the men's bathroom (at any stadium) then I have to

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:12:41 PM)
the way I look at it kirk..i'm in the stadium..

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:12:56 PM)
He needs some tough love to grow up in a hurry or his dream of playing in the league will be gone and his life will spiral downward. Someehow, someway he needs to see that his way is the wrong way and that he needs to buy into what the right way is

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:13:19 PM)
68...hopefully Mo has learned something from this mess..

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:13:19 PM)
Susan it's just tough to say... each day this week I've heard completely different stories from people who would have inside scoops.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:14:04 PM)
I agree...but who are the fans to boo...he didnt wrong them...he wronged his team, his coaches, and his integrity....we should stand behind are team

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:14:20 PM)
I definitely want Mo to play for us, but he needs to understand where he went wrong. I agree that it won't look good for the recruits, but it would also send a message that we don't tolerate any of this at OSU.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:14:22 PM)
fans who boo are fair weather fans..imo

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 2:14:33 PM)
agree susan

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:14:34 PM)
i agree susan

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 2:14:54 PM)
let JT and Andy handle MoC. The fans should just back the team

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:14:57 PM)
Hey Kirk...I seen that footage of Demario...he is phenomenal

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:15:03 PM)
agree 68....it shows that JT has integrity for taking the stance with Mo

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:15:16 PM)
I agree on the booing... for the most part it doesn't sound good

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:15:17 PM)
did any media see any practice yesterday?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:15:36 PM)
duncan Demario Pleasant or someone else?

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:15:50 PM)
oops...that defensive back out of mansfield

RossfordBuck (Aug 7, 2003 2:15:56 PM)
We all heard the RB's looked good, and the line looked good, anyone else stand out?

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:16:04 PM)
Even if he gets cleared by the NCAA, how many games do you see JT sitting him? I say at least one. After reading JT's comments yesterday he sounds like he is trying to send a message, and fast

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:16:39 PM)
I would sit him against bowling green and San diego state

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:16:45 PM)
O'Neal is a true blue-chipper for sure. Very few players I have seen this year (junior and senior) are better

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:17:02 PM)
I agree..he is very elusive

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:17:09 PM)
If you could give me a percentage what are the chances of seeing maurice playing this year. I sure do like the way ross and hall look. Both look in good shape

LightningRod (Aug 7, 2003 2:17:09 PM)
I consistently hear Tressel say that when he speaks to the parents of a recruit, he assures them that he will treat the recruit as if the recruit was his own. I do not discipline my boys in public (I can't anymore -they will whoop me), and I do not expect Tressel to make his discipline a public spectacle. I will trust that Tressel will do what he needs to do, and the reason I trust is because Tressel has always tried to do the right thing.

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:17:17 PM)
You can't sit him against the easy foes-That would send even a worse message than not sitting him at all-That is what they do at FSU

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:17:20 PM)
kirk..i'll video o'neal when he's playing here and send it to ya if you want..

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:17:26 PM)
i'll focus on him.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:17:51 PM)
is o'neal a strong verbal?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:18:27 PM)
canal fulton buckeye, that's a good question. I'd probably say 90%, but I'd say the percentages go down if you're talking about every game

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:18:34 PM)
I dont think Bowling Green is going to be easy

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:18:43 PM)
If they sit Maurice they have to sit him against someone that can play, personally i'd rather sit him against UW and have him play against N.C. State

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:18:59 PM)
I think O'Neal will stick. The good news is he's becoming friends with the Ginns, which will help it stick.

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:19:12 PM)
So, Kirk you see him sitting 2-3 games

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:19:12 PM)
it makes sense if mo sits..it'll be the first game

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:19:15 PM)
So is Ginn going to be a buckeye?

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:19:22 PM)
BG won't be an easy game. I agree Canal that they should sit him against UW and put the whole mess behind them

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:19:25 PM)
Susan, sure, we love to get tapes

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:20:06 PM)
I can't see Ginn Sr. signing his papers to play anywhere else

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:20:16 PM)
canalfultonbuckeye, the percentage is just a guess because again I have heard so many different things that it's tough to sort through what's truth and what isn't right now.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:20:32 PM)
It would be a surprise to many if Ginn didn't choose OSU

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:20:34 PM)
i know what you mean

DaHawg (Aug 7, 2003 2:20:50 PM)
I saw on the Cleveland City Schools web page that the football head coaching position is posted at Cleveland Glenville. That was the first I had heard of that. Is Ginn leaving?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:21:02 PM)
Susan, either one is fine, they both go to me

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:21:10 PM)
ok

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:21:20 PM)
Kirk do you see the Bucks landing the kid from Benedictine or someonelse, for instance ferguson f

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:21:26 PM)
DaHawg, can you post a link to that?

DaHawg (Aug 7, 2003 2:21:40 PM)
I will look it up right now.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:22:20 PM)
maybe coach ginn is coming to cbus with his son lol

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:22:29 PM)
What about Marcus Freeman...I heard him say that he likes Oklahoma

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:22:44 PM)
Gary H swears Freeman is a buck

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:22:45 PM)
he was quoted

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:22:46 PM)
canalfultonbuckeye, not out of the question for them to land another Ohio RB, but it sort of seems unlikely right now. They just don't seem too interested in Ferguson although things could change. I'm pretty sure they like Williams, but grades are a problem

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:22:54 PM)
who is gary h

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:23:14 PM)
sorry..jd...gary housteau..writes for Buckeye sports bulletin

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:23:15 PM)
If Marcus Freeman goes to Oklahoma, that would be a surprise

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:23:30 PM)
Antonio pittman...if you havent seen him...check him out in the buckey video librarhy

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:23:34 PM)
library

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:24:07 PM)
Kirk...are the going to get a blue chip running back this year...ie charlie jones?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:24:26 PM)
jduncan, I don't think Ohio

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:24:31 PM)
Pittman can flat out play, i've seen him in person a couple of times, plus i heard he has put on some weight

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:24:37 PM)
State will get one of the highest-rated RBs nationally

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:24:46 PM)
who?

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 2:25:09 PM)
Pittman isn't a slouch though

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:25:10 PM)
Your right canal fulton..he punishes defenders before he gets tackled

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:25:12 PM)
Sorry if this has been asked but Kirk, what do you think about a QB in this class? Are we going to end up "passing" so to speak?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:25:32 PM)
Pittman's not rated high nationally, but I think there's some parity between the RBs once you get past a few guys, and from what I have seen, I think Pittman is just as good as most of them if not better

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:26:13 PM)
Kirk are u shocked at all about Hoyer going to MSU,

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:26:18 PM)
MO-MO I read that Xavier Lee...is considering Ohio State...as well as Bobby Reid

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:26:36 PM)
reid already verbaled to OK St

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:26:41 PM)
Mo-Mo, it sort of looks like it although I don't know... their top guys are probably out of the picture though if you count Morelli

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:26:46 PM)
Darn!

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:27:14 PM)
Kirk..will Reid still visit oh state?

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:27:24 PM)
What about Lee, and Henne?

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:27:33 PM)
Would the bucks take a chance on a Qb , such as Clark from Youngstown Ursuline

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:27:39 PM)
henne to michigan

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:27:46 PM)
canalfultonbuckeye, nope... OSU and UM were originally his favorites, but they dragged their feet while MSU was on him from the beginning. You could see it start to develop earlier in the summer

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:28:00 PM)
michigan gets all the blue chip QB

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:28:06 PM)
Susan, I haven't heard for sure on that one

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:28:16 PM)
I hear Lee is more an athlete and he's gotta be an extreme longshot.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:28:28 PM)
Kirk, do they have a shot of getting Xavier Lee?

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:28:39 PM)
I hear he as a cannon

dagat21 (Aug 7, 2003 2:28:49 PM)
No way does Lee leave FL

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:29:01 PM)
I think it would be tough to get Lee.

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:29:02 PM)
have you heard anything from leon hart?

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:29:24 PM)
At least we still have Zwick...and Smith

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:29:47 PM)
We also have Boekman (spelling)

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:29:58 PM)
Anyone recall the last really highly rated out of state QB we got? I can't think of any and Krenzel was rated but I'm talking BLUE CHIP!

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:30:01 PM)
And Bauserman

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:30:03 PM)
A guy in Ohio who's starting to get some buzz is Alex Engram, but I don't know OSU's level of interest. That's a good question on Darryl Clark; he's a quality player. Iowa, WV and others have offered

dagat21 (Aug 7, 2003 2:30:14 PM)
If we open the O a little this year we may be able to get a Blue Chip next year!

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:30:31 PM)
Kirk...Do you see Irizzary playing Tight End or DE.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:30:45 PM)
MO-MO it was austin Moherman

Chester (Aug 7, 2003 2:30:46 PM)
Which of the out of state OL does OSU have the best chance of landing?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:30:46 PM)
We haven't talked to Hart yet but I'd guess OSU's chances might be on the long side... we have tape of him though and he looks pretty good

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:30:57 PM)
jduncan, TE definitely

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:31:04 PM)
dagat21-I think it would take 2-3 yrs of opening up the offense to get the attention of the blue-chippers. Look at '97 and '98's offenses and we still didn't get the attn of the BC QB's

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:31:07 PM)
I know we can win with average Krenzel like QB's but I'd love to get that superstar from out of state!

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:31:23 PM)
I hope we open up the O this year, can't wait to see all the wr's i think holmes and hall are going to breakout years, along with Carter

dagat21 (Aug 7, 2003 2:31:26 PM)
Good Point!

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:31:48 PM)
Louis reminds me of that guy from Miami....winslow

LightningRod (Aug 7, 2003 2:31:49 PM)
Irizzary as a punt blocking specialst along with Gonzo.

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:31:55 PM)
Bauserman may have a monster year at Lincoln. Last year, he was learning the O and the speed of the receivers so he should be very comfortable this year. Many in Fla like him better than Weathersford who committed to FSU. Hope Joe comes to OSU.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:32:18 PM)
Kirk...in the Bucknuts mag the staffs season predictions were obviously before the Mo saga....Are you changing your won-loss guesses?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:32:24 PM)
Chester, that's a good question... I want to wait and see about Jacky Claude, but there seems to be some strong interest there. We felt a while back that OSU had a real good shot at Kyle Mitchum, but they like him at DT reportedly and we haven't talked to him in a while to get the latest.

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:32:38 PM)
It really seems that football is an after thought with Bauserman. It's hard to get excited about him.

texasbuckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:32:50 PM)
Good question Susan.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:32:54 PM)
If we had a blue chip QB with a cannon arm we would be hard to stop

canal fulton buckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:33:18 PM)
Kirk do you think OSU will offer Chauncey Incargnito from Dover a scholie, I've seen him play a couple of times and he looks like he as a tremendous upside

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:33:21 PM)
ESPN has a good article (

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:33:44 PM)
Good article on what?

HangOnSloopy (Aug 7, 2003 2:33:48 PM)
I like how everyone thinks we need a bluechip QB. Heupel, Krenzel, and Tee Martin are far from blue chip

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:34:14 PM)
Just give me a serviceable guy who doesn't make mistakes

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:34:22 PM)
Kirk...when I watched Krenzel throw this year...he underthrew Gamble a couple times...does he have a stronger arm than people give him credit for?

OHBuck (Aug 7, 2003 2:34:25 PM)
Special teams should be awesome :)

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:34:39 PM)
I think we tend to sell Krenzel a little short. he seems to have plenty of talent to me

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:34:40 PM)
Susan, nah, I'll stick to it. I think they'll get to Wisconsin unbeaten with or without Clarett, but with or without him, that's going to be a big battle. I'd guess he'll be back by then, but hopefully all the garbage will be over with and there can be 100% focus. The only two games that really worry me are Wisconsin and UM, but I'll stick withthe win. I do think Miami will be a great team by the end of the year, if not before then

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:34:47 PM)
OHBuck- Let's hope that we can get some scores off of the return game

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:34:47 PM)
I agree Sloop but we all think it will make us feel better to get one now and then!

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:34:50 PM)
Espn has a good article about NC QB's (from Stoops, Paterno, etc) that stresses leadership first and physical skills secondarily - a must read which mentions Krenzel. I wouldn't get too caught up in the QB's who just want NFL training.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:35:28 PM)
canal fulton, it doesn't look like it, which is unfortunate. He's our #3 lineman in Ohio behind Braxton and Person. He's a good player.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:35:57 PM)
if troy smith can really run a 4.1 40 let him handle punt returns

DaHawg (Aug 7, 2003 2:36:05 PM)
Kirk, I looked up the job postings on the Cleveland City Schools web page and there was no opening posted for Ginn's position. It was there about two weeks ago, I even called about the Board office about the position. The secretary that answered said she did not know of any particular openings. She was no help. Maybe he was between contracts or there was a mix up, but it was posted.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:36:09 PM)
I'm not as worried about Wisconsin, if we don't have key injuries..Last yr we went up there pretty banged up....although the badgers will be out for blood

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:36:21 PM)
Kirk- Do you think that we are shying away from in-state OL to shoot for BC's OOS or do you think that these guys don't fit w/ Bollman's program?

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:37:07 PM)
I think we can win with average to good offensive lineman too.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:37:09 PM)
I think Lee Evans caught everyone by surprise...it will be interesting to see how Gamble matches up with him...Sorgi is no Bollinger

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:37:13 PM)
OSU has played won the last 2 at Wisky and seem to play well on the road last year - Wisky, Pur, Ill.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:38:09 PM)
Kirk...what do you think are Recruitment Ranking will be this year?

youngstown (Aug 7, 2003 2:38:10 PM)
Sorgi is way better than Bolinger.

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:38:22 PM)
wouldn't you rate NCstate above wisky?

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:38:23 PM)
Sorgi has a stronger arm..but not as mobile

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:38:26 PM)
I disagree youngstown....Sorgi isnt a fighter

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:38:30 PM)
Mike68, I'm basing a lot of my theory on what Steve Rehring said about OSU wanting to take five linemen. So far, they've got three -- Person, Skinner, and Rehring. I'd imagine they feel Braxton has a good chance of being #4, and I would not be surprised if they thought they were in good shape with an out-of-state guy for #5. That might explain why they are holding off on Ohio guys

youngstown (Aug 7, 2003 2:38:44 PM)
Sorgi fought WIsky back to almost beat us last year.

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:05 PM)
yeah, but that was before we found a good db..gamble

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:28 PM)
Sorgi was shut out the second half

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:30 PM)
i was at the wisky purdue game a couple years ago..sorgi vs. brees...what a shootout..

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:35 PM)
jduncan, I think it will be top ten... whether or not it will be top five depends on out-of-state success. Ohio is just not too top heavy this year. Davis and Ginn to me are the only real five-star guys.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:40 PM)
High scoring OT game...

youngstown (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:47 PM)
Wisky fans have been screaming for SOrgi for years, now I guess we;ll see....I hope you are right and he stinks!

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:55 PM)
must've been 800 yards total in the air combined

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:56 PM)
Wisky is better than NCSt. NCSt has speed, but a lot of guys are undersized (especially LBs') and they don't have the depth that Wisky has (yet-Give Amato another 2 years)

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:39:58 PM)
So Kirk...do we get Davis you think?

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:40:21 PM)
I agree Mike

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:40:27 PM)
I'd be surprised if OSU didn't get Davis, but we won't find out for a while

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:40:52 PM)
Lydell Ross sure seems poised to kick some rear-end! Bulked up and ready.

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:41:01 PM)
KIrk- Of the current verbals, who have you spoken to or heard that will enroll early?

jduncan (Aug 7, 2003 2:41:21 PM)
Was Ross a Blue Chipper coming out of highschool?

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:41:22 PM)
OSU should be interesting and maybe somewhat surprising this season. I don't think JT thinks they can or will be the same kind of team on O or D. Given the OL I think we see more diversity like last year until the Mo and OL injurys occured. Like Babb says, maybe 64/40 run to pass but I think we see a more dynamic O and a D with a lot of talent, depth and flex.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:41:34 PM)
6 % body fat for Lydell...whoa...wasn't eddie something like that

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:42:03 PM)
Ross was a blue-chipper. All of the Fl schools wanted him

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:42:11 PM)
Ross was a guy everyone had ranked high, but some services had him as a top 50 or 100 guy nationally... others had him as a top 250 guy or so. Either way, that's not bad

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:42:21 PM)
I hope Lydell gets a good shot. He seems to perform well and then when MO's emerges from the dog house, he jumps right back in front of Ross.

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:42:43 PM)
Suz, I really hope and think Flydell has matured physically and mentally and is Ready. I think Hall will too.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:42:52 PM)
Mike68, of the current verbals, only A. Pittman comes to mind as someone who has mentioned it... come to think of it, I think Rehring did too.

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:43:20 PM)
How about Maurice Hall...I heard he clocked a 4.2 in the 40

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:43:26 PM)
i agree scribe..i think they'll both surprise us all

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:44:02 PM)
when will a current roster be abailable

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:44:23 PM)
I think so too. Ross more than Hall, but I see Hall having a couple of really impressive games. Too bad one of them wasn't redshirted

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:44:30 PM)
We need to run Hall outside more. He's not an off-tackle kind of guy

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:44:44 PM)
Edbuck, there is a current roster x walkons on the official OSU site - link from Bucknuts.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:44:53 PM)
yeah..especially mo hall maybe could've redshirted..he didn't play much his frosh season anyway..

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:45:00 PM)
now we need him for depth

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:45:09 PM)
thanks scribe

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:45:22 PM)
Outside of PSU as a freshamn Hall didn't hardly play

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:45:27 PM)
why is that clarett gathers national attetion for his allegations...but marlin jackson is just a side note?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:45:47 PM)
We have our roster updated to the latest changes

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:45:51 PM)
that roster has britton and hiley both wearing no. 1

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:46:20 PM)
Good ? jdun. Good thing is that Mo didn't break any laws (except for falsifying police report which is a misdmeanor) and Jackson may being going to prison and see his football career end

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:46:20 PM)
Big time RB on NC team gets the headlines over an underachieving teams AA DB.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:46:23 PM)
jdun..cuz we're national champs

starkbuckeye (Aug 7, 2003 2:46:42 PM)
jdun, because we are national champions. God, that still feels good to say that.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:46:47 PM)
plus mo's already experienced at controversy...

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:46:54 PM)
Susan- You can have two guys w/ the same #-They just can't be on the field at the same time

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:46:55 PM)
yes it does feel good

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:47:06 PM)
I think Clarett's just one of those guys who is a media magnet. Some athletes have that knack... he burst onto the scene last year in a game that was the only one on TV for the entire country, and ever since then, he's never been out of the spotlight

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:47:13 PM)
i know..68..but being their both on def..i thought that strange.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:47:29 PM)
like Mo and jacobs both with 13....off and def..

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:47:32 PM)
i can see that

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:47:32 PM)
I thought that Hiley was listed at WR.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:47:38 PM)
it said both..

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:47:49 PM)
db/wr

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:48:03 PM)
I think Hiley is one of if not the best athlete on the tema

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:48:04 PM)
team

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:48:14 PM)
JT mentioned Lukens as an OLB on theFan today. Carp - 251, Richardson 270,Fraser in great shape as well as many other. Was surprised about Lukens already.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:48:27 PM)
I like Hiley at WR... I know that's a deep position, but he's a guy I want to see with the ball in his hands

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:48:30 PM)
The line starts after Mr. Gamble jdun, but Hiley could be the next in line

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:48:36 PM)
i tried to identify all the running backs in the picture on the news link with the roster on the applet and was unsuccessful. maybe some of those guys are walk ons.

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:49:05 PM)
Kirk..your right...from what Ive seen...Hiley is electric with the ball in his hands

papete (Aug 7, 2003 2:49:20 PM)
of all of the underclassman on the DL who are you most anxious to see? for me its Pitcock(incredible speed and strengh

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:49:35 PM)
marcus green

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:49:38 PM)
for me patterson

youngstown (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:00 PM)
Pitcock and Patterson, scary....

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:02 PM)
Me too, I want to see Marcus Green. Dave B has been hyping him up, and I want to see him. Pitcock too.

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:12 PM)
Was Marcus Green a Big time recruit?

edbuck51 (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:22 PM)
pitcock too!

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:24 PM)
Patterson's the man. I'd like to see him redshirt, but he may be too good

youngstown (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:25 PM)
Pitcock blocked 4 punts in HS I read. At 300.

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:34 PM)
I'd love to try the shuttle pass or shuffle pass (not sure which it is) to some of the backs to get the ball in their hands. It's probably too high risk for Tress.

Chester (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:43 PM)
Anybody know if OSU is seriously considering moving Hawk inside? Personally, I think that is his more natural position.

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:43 PM)
Mo C is maturing slowly (per Geiger), but is temperamental, speaks his mind, doesn't think of responsibility or fallout but hopefully will improve. I know, many of the kids at OSU keep to themselves and are polite. I would have thought his mom, Michelle, would have read him the riot act somewhere.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:50:56 PM)
Green had some real nice offers... he was originally going to UK but backed out. I believe he chose OSU over Texas

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:51:42 PM)
What's Going on with D'andrea...I heard physically he has all the tools to be a great one...but he is having reading and reacting?

youngstown (Aug 7, 2003 2:51:52 PM)
MoC has been coddled since he was in gradeschool, never made to be accountable for his actions.

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:52:21 PM)
Does anyone ever see other college teams run some really cool yet relatively simple plays and wonder why we can't do stuff like that? A little imagination?

papete (Aug 7, 2003 2:52:44 PM)
is it possible that Reynolds has beefed up enough to be moved to DE? we seem pretty set at LB and it would be a great way for him to see the field. especially after this year.

papete (Aug 7, 2003 2:52:58 PM)
sorry i mean carpenter

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:53:16 PM)
I say put Mo in a room w/ Spielman for an hour and see if he comes out a changed man. I bet he does

MO-MO (Aug 7, 2003 2:53:45 PM)
Mo wouldn't show up!

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 2:54:00 PM)
JT mentioned on the fan that MDA can play 3 positions again underlining his flex. I believe the coaches know what they will do with all the LB's already but we'll have to wait and see. They may need to see what Lukens and others can do to help but not Hawk, MDA, Carp etc.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:54:14 PM)
are you talking about Cliff Reynolds or Robert?

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:54:20 PM)
Anybody got anythink on Mike D'Andrea?

papete (Aug 7, 2003 2:54:26 PM)
i meant to say Carpenter

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:54:33 PM)
anything

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:55:08 PM)
I think MDA will get a lot of action... if I recall they were looking at him at the Viper position as well, so if Pagac is at MLB, we could still see Mike out there quite a bit

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:55:26 PM)
What is the VIPER pOS?

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 2:56:04 PM)
that's where he tackles the rb then bites him ;)

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:56:09 PM)
HA

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:56:19 PM)
W/ all of the spread offenses we will see, the MLB will get less playing time than the other two spots. The MLB typically is the one pulled for eztra DB's. I do hope that MDA gets his shot. I see a breakout year for him

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 2:57:08 PM)
Someone else could probably describe it a lot better, and I'll probably get it wrong, but to my knowledge it's sort of like a fifth lineman, like a LB/DE

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 2:57:42 PM)
Kirk- They have also mentioned him at the Leo position. Any clue as to what the Leo is?

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:57:46 PM)
Kirk, what big time player do you see coming here from out of state?

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 2:59:12 PM)
Estes, Barrett, Jarrett?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:00:00 PM)
Leo I think stands for Linebacker/End Option. I am not totally sure as to the exact duties of Leo and Viper.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:00:58 PM)
jdun, I still think OSU is right smack dab in the middle of things for Kyle Mitchum... I won't say for sure whether or not I think he's coming, but they'll put up a big fight

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 3:01:02 PM)
Will Smith played Leo - stand up DE who can drop back into coverage so MDA would need to be a DE to play Leo.

jdun (Aug 7, 2003 3:01:24 PM)
What Position does he play?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:01:33 PM)
Mitchum is OL/DT

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 3:02:30 PM)
Kirk, I assume you think Mitchum, Gallimore, Byers in that order for our chances?

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 3:03:26 PM)
Kirk- By the way, nice job on the latest edition of the mag. Got it last night and immediately read it. Any chance of it becoming monthly during the season?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:04:18 PM)
Viper duties would include more of a rushing end I think. I'm not the best X's and O's guy

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:04:44 PM)
Thanks Mike68; it does come out monthly during the school year (break for the summer)

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 3:04:46 PM)
Now that we are in the running for so many national recruits I hope it will help cement things when these kids see OSU on the field.

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 3:05:10 PM)
Didn't know that. I'll be looking for it more regularly then

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 3:05:54 PM)
Kirk, isn't Viper the position that Kudla was penciled in for?

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 3:07:01 PM)
Kirk- Who do you see at Center? If Mangold, then who is out at Guard

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:08:36 PM)
Our next issue should be out end of this month/beginning of Sept... stories include Michael Jenkins, Erik Haw, Q&A with Coach Fickell and a good Q&A with tom Tupa

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:10:43 PM)
scribe I'm not 100% sure although he would fit the mold I think

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:12:17 PM)
Mike68 that's one of the things I want to see... if Nick starts, I would guess Stepanovich and Clarke at guard but if I had to guess I would say Stepanovich will start while Nick will certainly get time

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:14:20 PM)
Wish I had a recruiting scoop for you today but news is slow...

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 3:15:22 PM)
Will there be more quotes/news posted later on from Today's practice?

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:16:53 PM)
Practice is closed today I believe, but we have another bit from last night to post, plus even more of that on the way

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 3:17:00 PM)
Kirk, yeah, I was hoping we would get some verbals before HS practice starts (Connor/Henne type commits) but it looks like we can concentrate on the current team for now.

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:17:27 PM)
I think for many of the guys OSU is in on, we're just in sit back and wait mode

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:17:51 PM)
Before I log off, we interview Alex Boone for the Bucknuts Radio Hour at 3:30. Does anyone have any questions they'd like to see asked?

D'AND_FAN (Aug 7, 2003 3:18:37 PM)
Im not sure u should ask this but Im sure he realizes..... will the talent level of the lineman they bring in this year affect his decision

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 3:19:01 PM)
Kirk, I really enjoyed coach Ginn who promotes not only his kids but helps other Cleveland area kids as well. Good interview and hope we get Ted, Marcus, Fred.

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 3:19:49 PM)
Ask him why he would verbal so early and not take his visits and see if there is a better opportunity out there for him. I'm glad he's coming but it is always interesting to see what is behind the decisions of kids that ahven't even started the 11th grade

Mike68 (Aug 7, 2003 3:20:47 PM)
Ask him to what he is benching, squating, etc. Interesting to see how strong he is. That may have been a factor in his getting an offer

scribeohio (Aug 7, 2003 3:21:02 PM)
Thanks, Kirk and participants.

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 3:22:02 PM)
ask him what former athletes he looks up to or tries to emulate

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 3:22:09 PM)
i mean..former college athletes

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:22:48 PM)
Thanks for the questions... we have to call him in a bit so I will check out now. Next week we'll try to get the guys in here who will be out at practice (Dave B and/or Charles B) and we'll chat about that. Thanks everyone for stopping by!

Susan (Aug 7, 2003 3:23:40 PM)
bye kirk

Kirk (Aug 7, 2003 3:24:32 PM)
Talk to you all soon. Go Bucks
